We had such good Chinese places in Canada but the Chinese in UAE and here at home in Pakistan never tastes the same

^^^It's true the Han consist more than 90% of the Chinese population but I think the government's policies are fair to the minorities as well. Some groups in the far west and extreme NW are little left behind in terms of timing, however in the last couple of years, the money is reaching those places as well. There are plans of spending upward $50 billions in Tibet alone next few years and numerous infrastructure projects in progress as we speak in places like Xinjiang, Qinghai, Ningxia and Gansu.

Take the Gin people, on my next few posts, they were dirt poor a couple of decades ago.....

Gin people 京族

Gin people 京族, numbered about 23,000, are an officially recognized ethnic group of China. The Gin connection to Vietnam is based on stories and documents which told that they moved from mainland Dai Viet to three sparsely inhabited islands of Wutou 巫头, Wanwei 万尾 and Shanxin 山心 islands off the coast of Dongxing city 东兴市 and Fangchenggan 防城港, Guangxi bordering Mong Cai 芒街 of Vietnam, in the 16th century. There are also smaller numbers of Gin living among other ethnic groups in various localities in Guangxi.

The Gin speak a dialect of Vietnamese and some speak Cantonese and mandarin. In addition to using Hanzi, the Gin have their unique Zinan script called Chu Nom 字喃 in Vietnamese, dating back to the 13th century. Most Gin in China are Buddists and Taoists.

The Gin people are also an officially recognized ethnic group in Vietnam, in fact the largest (86%) ethnic group with estimated population of 75 million, but known as Kinh people. There are also an estimated of 3 million Vietnamese Diaspora around the world with the US has the largest concentration of 1.8 million, Cambodia has 600,000 and France has 250,000.

The three islands where most Gin in China live: 京族三岛: Wutou 巫头, Wanwei 万尾 and Shanxin 山心 as indicates by 3 red lines. The 3 islands were originally alluvial sand islands. Due to land reclamation and the construction of seawalls they are now interconnected and attach to the mainland as a peninsula with a total area of 21 km2. Administratively the 3-Islands group as one township, officially named Jingdao Islands 京族三岛. The Gin islanders are traditional fishermen but now a thriving tourist industry is being established. The individual island names are rarely used these days

As I mentioned before the Gin are the only ethnic group in China that are seafarers. They also have a unique way of fishing near the shores: the "stilt fishing'' 高跷捕鱼. The Gin stilt fishing are different then the Bangladeshi's, the only other group that fish this way, they walk with the stilts on water.

Jingdao Islands 京族三岛 are no longer islands anymore. They are parts of the mainland through reclamations, however, the island atmosphere still remained. They are now the second most island tourist draw in Guangxi and become the biggest industry for the Gin.

After several years of development, Wanwei 万尾金滩 Golden Island has begun to take a shape of a tourist resort zone where tourism infrastructure, reception facilities, and recreational facilities have become more efficient and has become another hot coastal tourist destination after Silver Beach of Beihai of Guangxi.

The Ha Festival 唱哈节 or Changha Festival is the Gin equivalent of the Chinese Spring Festival. It usually lasts 3 to 4 days with continuous festivities like ancestral worships, singing, dancing and feasting. China has put this holiday on the culture heritage list
