MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine Air Force (PAF) said they will be acquiring fighter jets in the next two years.

Twelve surface attack aircraft lead-in fighters or TA-50s from South Korea are expected to be delivered by 2013.

Each jet costs P1.25 billion for a total of P25 billion for the dozen jets.

The TA-50 is a supersonic aircraft that requires more experienced pilots.

Authorities said bulk of the P70 billion allocated for the modernization of the Armed Forces under the Aquino administration will go to the Air Force.

I don't know why Philippines waited a little more for F/A-50, which has the radar range of an F-16 Block 52, but I guess Philippines were urgent and couldn't wait for it.

and use F/A-50 to fight with J-10B/J-11BS? dude, eat more kimchi and have less wet dream.

in terms of weaponry, SK is about 50 years behind.

Let's also recall the fact that PLA captured Seoul about 10 weeks after entering Korea.

hmmm. i heard that the rumor is many taiwanese ching kuo engineers participated in t-50. but thats just a rumor. but 50 years behind who? t-50 is still a lockheed product.

those f/a-50 still carry american missiles and have israeli radar. but i guess american and israel are also 50 years behind the j-10. ok dude. if you say so.

F/A-50 is for surface strike only. To battle Chinese flankers, Philippines must shop something better. At least this allows Philliines to air-patrol the Scarborough and Spratly's.

It is true. Koreans call those 20 Taiwanese ex-Ching Kuo engineers "Taiwan 20". No one denies that T-50 was heavily influenced by Ching Kuo.

t-50 is still a lockheed product.
Lockheed role is rather minimal. Lockheed did provide air data for FBW and the initial avionics, as well as design validation, but the actual engineering is done by "Taiwan 20" and Korean engineers.

I hope not, junk-10, junk-11 still have not found customers for export yet
J-10 cannot be exported due to their Russian engine dependence. China agreed to not export its Su-30 copies.

Ching kuo is a piece of sh*t. Taiwan should acquire f-16 block 60 to supplement its AF.

Ching kuo is not bad. If it were not for underpowered engines it could be a formidable 4th gen.

thanks korean, i learn a lot from you. do you go by other alias on other websites? your informative nature reminds me of posters on militaryfotosdotcom. you dont have to answer if u desire anonymity.

i will have to go on naver and research on the taiwan 20. taiwan being a secret korean ally, i thought this sort of thing would be highly secret...

i wonder if this philippines deal is a done deal or if its just a case of some guy saying, "its gonna happen!". military procurement news seem similar to me like transfer rumors of soccer players... its hard to trust anything until you see the player playing on the new team wearing their new jersey...

PAF to Acquire 12 TA-50 LIFT Aircrafts From KAI ...

The Philippines air force has decided to purchase 12 TA-50 trainer jets from South Korea in a project worth nearly $360 million, a Philippines broadcaster reported Wednesday.

The aircraft produced by Korea Aerospace Industries will be delivered within next year, ABS-CBN reported citing air force officials.

The trainer jets are priced at 1.25 billion pesos ($29.8 million) each, it added.

Seoul’s Defense Acquisition Program Administration, however, said that although it was working on exporting the TA-50 to the Philippines it has yet to receive any confirmation on the issue.

According to reports, the Philippine government is conducting a 70 billion peso program to update its military’s equipment, and a significant proportion of the budget is to be directed into bolstering the air force.

The TA-50 is a weaponry-equipped trainer jet with attack and operational capabilities matching those of the KF-16 fighter jets operated by the Korean Air Force.

The TA-50 is fitted with the F404-GE102 engine used in the F-18 fighter jet, and is equipped with digital flight control systems and radar.

Seoul’s Air Force currently operates 21 TA-50 trainer fighter jets, and the first batch of Air Force pilots trained in the aircraft will go into active service at the end of the year.

hopefully it helps hold off china and its bullying.. although i do not see that happening since china does not care about life of anyone. chinese remind me of the japanese in ww2.... they are kamakaze and like to overwhelm with sheer numbers.

but, i guess it is better then what you got now.... it would be good if the philippines could double or triple its military equipment! then they could stand tall and hold off china for a while, if of course it came to war

china is tae
