Personal Analysis: Pakistan Did mistake in priorities of CPEC projects

Ok Agreed but making an environment, framework to run your mentioned industries should be the first priority. We already have Pakistan steel mill but in loss.

BTW thanks for your courageous response.

"industrialization" is a very vague term. It is open to subjective interpretation and different people will have different ideas about it.

Totally agreed with you specially the part of planing rail line between a coal producing area connected to an iron ore producing area. fortunately Iron ore is found in various regions of Pakistan including Nokundi, Chinot and the largest one in Kalabagh, I think it is Less then 42% quality, Haripur and other Northern Areas too, on 11 February, 2015 The reserves were found in Chiniot, around 160 kilometres northwest of Lahore, by Chinese group the Metallurgical Cooperation of China.

We have also massive coal reserve in tharcoal. But despite all these facts our still mill imports the iron ore & coal too & icing on the cake for the corrupt public office holders & bureaucracy are running this industry which resulted heavy loss. Now again back to square for corrupt mafia of the country. And whole focus will be diverted.
I'm unaware of the on ground progress of CPEC, but from what I've read from media reports, a major part of CPEC seems to focus on building the industrial capacity of Pakistan, has that not gone through?

As for oil, it's like an open secret at this point, developing countries like ours pay more than the developed ones, it's not a very fair economic system imposed on us.

The work is done for the existing industry of pak with the collaboration of Chinese companies. But few industries are facing some difficulties in order to work with Chinese on a speedy phase. My main concerns is final production cost which is comparatively high with the region. Yeah all new SEZs are just in papers no ground reality yet.

Just curious, has all the infrastructure related part completed or in the final stages or still ongoing?

How much time did it take to set up the first phase and how much is estimated for the second?
$60 billion isn't going to be spent in a day. Delhi wasn't built in a day.

Focusing on the inherently strong industries of Pakistan first, paired with shifting of suitable ones from China should be the initial aim.

As I said, I asked with no malicious intent, simply to get an idea of the time frame it takes for such a huge endeavour.

This was not my idea, this was the plan in the 1960s of the Pak government. But this was later shelved because ZA Bhutto instead chose to bring an outdated steel mill and place it near Karachi. Ruining the proper development of the Pak economy.

The second phase completion prediction by 2025. I my self confuse about 2nd phase either it's for social sector OR for industrialization (SEZs).

Russian built that steel mill it was profitability running and still can make massive profits, but some lobbies have been working to sabotage it obviously for achieving some hidden agendas.

Dams are long term expensive projects, Pakistan was suffering acute energy shortages and couldn't have waited for 5-10 years. So, energy projects which we undertook were logical thing to do to address the problem in short term to restart industry. Road projects were also necessary for connectivity. But yes Orange line train was not needed and metro project of Multan is also ill planned and executed project, we should have started working SEZs in parallel which we haven't done.

Thanks for your thoughts which resolved some of my doubts. I have question now. If Pakistan begin the construction work on hydroelectric dams. It means will Pakistan persuade hydro cheap electricity over coal, wind & others expensive electricity in order to compete regionally?
&
If this is a case then what about the IPPs ? Those invested in other energy related projects.

We must build dams to address water crises which is already knocking the doors and we as usual are still searching for shoes. As far as electricity is concerned - Keep in mind hydro power don't produce the same amount of electricity 365 days of the year as we don't keep release same amount of water - So, we need an energy mix, IMO we should first try to cover the shortage in cheapest way possible (However we should plant more trees on urgent basis as well, it was in manifesto of PTI don't know what's progress) to power our industries for short term but should focus on clean energy for medium and long term.

CPEC primarily focus on power industries to solve the shortage of power supply, this occupies more than 70 percentages of total funds. You can't talk about effective industrialization without enough and uninterruptible power supply. Then the roads and railways to connect all key routes of logistic and inhabitants. Both aim to decrease the cost of business operation, reduce the risk of global investors, yes, China take majority fraction of the total risk. The completion of CPEC lay stones for a simple framework to boost growth of the economy. This is basically what China can do for Pakistan, provide funds, technology, skill, and initial round of investment from Chinese business owners, then all the left works are expected to be done by Pakistan government and its people.

Right now Pakistan has 7 thousand MW surplus electricity but due to lake of transmission lines all can't be transferred which is resulting in loss. And because Pakistan transmission lines can only bear the load of 19MW thousand so despite having surplus electricity there will be load shedding & the demand is 24MW thousand but we can produce 32MW thousand. So there are almost 13MW thousand difference between generating capacity & transmission lines. It is really sound incompetence.

I believe this will eventually be addressed on demand.

Pakistan has done an unpardonable crime of not fully utilizing the naturally available hydro-power. Remember that such kind of resource, in such abundance, is not available to possibly most of the countries. Another aspect is that, it is not essential to build large dams, for harnessing hydro electricity. It can be done, equally effectively, by constructing a number of medium scale weirs/dams, in series (called cascade), on a river. Only, in this case, the storage made available would be lesser. Let me assure you, that there is a very strong lobby in Pakistan, as well as international, which has conspired to restrain Pakistan from going this way.

Nah not really, what we need is the Beijing-Europe to Gwadar/Karachi railway then watch the dollars flood in and Pakistan rocket to super economic power status.

Let’s start from Basic and don’t try to feed Biryani to new born (Naya Pakistan) baby.

judicial system = 100 years old
Police system = 100 years old
Banking system = 25 to 30 years older than other countries
Economy: old and unproductive economic policies in last 30 years.
Education system: 25 years older than other countries.
All governments businesses have failed and are in loss.
Electricity generation, transportation and distribution system = 30 years older than other countries.
Foreign policies = There was No foreign policies in last 5 years. Current approach to foreign policy is old and weak.
Tried and tested and failed political systems where anyone with fake degree can buy and win the election.
Water crisis : estimated 800 big & small dams, and water reservoirs should have been built in Pakistan in last 40 years. You know the results.
Failed to create smaller administrative units for the ease of management and development. We are still stuck with gigantic 4 provinces where majority of the budget was spent on one city.

Hi,

A country that burns natural gas in motorcycles---rickshaws and cars---its fate is doomed---when it cannot supply natural gas to the industry---.

This fool of a nation has destroyed its industry while people burnt this precious product to move around---.
Which fool began this change to CNG stations?
