LAHORE

THE Punjab Emergency Service (Rescue 1122) has completed over 100,000 rescue operations in Lahore since its start in October, 2004 while maintaining its average record response time of less than seven minutes.

Rescue1122, started from the historical city of Lahore, has been acknowledged even internationally as a model for emergency preparedness, response and prevention.

Dr. Rizwan Naseer, Director General, Punjab Emergency Service (Rescue1122), reviewed the performance of emergency staff in Lahore and congratulated the District Emergency Officer Lahore and his team on maintaining a standard.

The total number of emergency calls, responded by Rescue 1122, were 100151 in Lahore which included 46373 (46 %) road accident, 50539 (50 %) medical emergencies, 2853 (3 %) fire incidents, 294 (0.3 %) building collapses and 92 (0.1 %) explosions.

Pakistan’s first modern fire service was also launched from Lahore in June, 2007 by Rescue1122 which had responded to 2853 fire incidents and saved precious lives and valuables.

There are several incidents where professional working of the service restricted the emergencies turning into disasters. This was observed during several bomb blast incidents at Naval War College and FIA Building.

FIA Building blast was smoothly managed and timely search of bodies trapped under the debris was also completed by the Disaster Emergency Response Teams of Rescue1122.

Dr. Rizwan Naseer said the service was not only ready to provide timely rescue and emergency medical treatment but it had been scheduled to train community so that people could play their role in case of any emergency or disaster.

The public is also requested to give way to Rescue1122 Ambulances and Vehicles and respect the emergency number 1122 which should only be dialed in case of any emergency, he added.
