In physical parameters, f-35 cruise speed is only 700-800 km, while top speed not more than 1.6 mach. Lower menuarabiltiy compare to concurrent fighters and lesser rate of climb.
But on other side it inherits best avionics in fighter plane, best network integration and very good stealth features.
It is more like they put advanced tech into older fighter platform.


But that's the plus and negatives of the systems. They leave those for those and that's what everyone do. Developed the system of their preference.

And sari n the cost consideration, of you see whenever world jump to advance generation the cost of plane also jumped to new high. Lighting may be too costly for 4 gen, but still cheaper for 5gen.

But thing which is clear that big time need to mature Lighting spacially engine and multirole capbility.

What surprise me is that after all those set backs US military have not revised the number of planes which they should have to save money, they can have lower number of these planes and could opt for solution like Silent Hornet, Silent Eagle etc.

LM should have look into it to, they could have pitched Silent Sixteen based on F-16 XL design turned into stealthy one with weapons in pods to be stealthy, it may have got success as US may not want to sale true 5th gen planes to all of its allies. its not only about bvr,,,it has got better irst,,better radar,better maws,better jammers than everything out there and possibly the best stealth after f-22.
