ISLAMABAD - Successful demonstration of production of electricity from coal at Thar by Pakistan Council for Scientific & Industrial Research (PCSIR) may help overcome current energy shortage in the country.
Senate Chairman Standing Committee on Science and technology Senator, Professor Sajid Mir said this while presiding over a meeting held at PCSIR office on Thursday. He said that PCSIR can play a pivotal role in meeting energy needs in long and short term. While briefing the Committee, Chairman, PCSIR Dr.Shaukat Pervez said out of the 4000 research publications that PCSIR has to its credit, 70 percent are on evaluation of local materials for use in various sectors.The Chairman said that the scientists and technologists of PCSIR developed 684 industrial processes and products and have 350 patents, on locally available raw materials He said that a large number of formulated products being imported at exorbitant rates by the textile, leather, pharmaceutical, cosmetics, household chemicals, food additives and consumer in the form of emulsions, surfactants, resins, adhesives, plastic parts, perfumes, flavors and other chemical and non-chemical products result in depletion of foreign exchange.

The existence of water-powered cars, after last year, when Chevy débuted its’ new Equinox Fuel Cell and Honda released the FCX Clarity? Why is the media yet questioning the methods used in water-powered cars such as the 2008 model from the Japanese company Genepax?

Earlier, in spring of 2007, Ford showcased the HySeries Edge, claiming to have the world’s first working plug-in fuel-cell hydrogen-powered car; and in the previous year, a Ford Ranger XL was modified to accommodate the HydrogenNow process for on-board production of hydrogen. And how would it feel to cruise in BMW’s Hydrogen 7, a hybrid hydrogen-and-gasoline engine, where gasoline is used only as backup after 125 miles of driving distance?

Even though some of those vehicles run on hydrogen, the process used in water-powered cars is similar. The hydrogen-powered cars derive oxygen from air intake on the engine, recombining the atmosphere of oxygen and on-board hydrogen into water as the emission.

If discussion on water-powered cars is needed, it should be to ask the question, ‘why has this technology not already been made available to us decades ago?’ Utilizing water as a fuel for a vehicle was first patented in 1918 by Ohio inventor Charles Frazer. Since then many improvements and similar methods have been developed in hydrogen fuel cell/booster technology.

The process by which this technology works is through water electrolysis. A cell is used as a chamber for two metallic plates, often stainless steel and, optimally, platinum. The cell is filled with water. Pre-charged water works best; salt water has the additional catalysis of the salt to aid conductivity; and pure water has a lower electrical conductivity. An electrical current passes through the water due to the chemical reaction of the submersed plates. Additionally, an outside electrical current is introduced into the chamber, in order to break the bonds of H2O. This process causes the hydrogen and oxygen to split into two parts hydrogen to one part oxygen.

The transformation (or decomposition) of the molecules is energy, which is released at a rate which some people claim breaks the law of thermodynamics. However, Gibbs free energy describes the capturing of energy released during the transformation process from one state to another, which is the maximum allowed energy potential within a closed loop system, so long as the bodies involved are in their initial condition at the end of the process. That potential energy exceeds zero; and therefore allows for a renewable energy.

The molecules recombine into water again after being fired in the engine cylinder. Some water is depleted through tiny holes within a car’s engine and exhaust. Designs are possible to collect exhaust and re-supply the hydrogen fuel cell, causing very little or no leaking and thus, requiring less water (fuel).

A slightly different approach is a technique to where water is injected as a mist on the spark plug. The water is charged by the spark plug’s electrical energy. That instantaneously electrolyzes the water around the plug. Then, the spark ignites the recombining process of the gases, which powers the engine. In that sense, the same electric energy that separates the bonds from the charge of the spark is the same spark that induces the recombining bonds, which, in turn, causes it to return to water, in order to repeat the process over and over.

Current technologies available on the market often utilize a hybrid electrical-and-hydrogen-powered system. None of the current technologies available to the public are self-sustainable without occasionally adding water or supplying electrical input, such as charging batteries. However, Genepax’s 2008 model claims it does not require any battery recharges and has no emissions.

Not only is the energy from water electrolysis enormous enough to power cars, but the method has also been employed as a propellant technique for lifting apparatuses into space. The hydrogen fuel cell technology is safe if it produces energy on-demand. The combustible gas in a fuel tank is, then, no longer a safety hazard, such in the case of hydrogen tanks. Instead, in energy on-demand technology, water and electricity are the only fuels in a holding tank.


That's right, water-powered cars that use HHO generators is the solution. These hydrogen generators for cars will help increase gas mileage and reduce emissions and are very simple in nature. By electrolyzing a small amount of water (H2O) and injecting it into the car's intake system, fossil fuels are replaced with clean burning hydrogen and oxygen (hydroxy gas or oxyhydrogen as it is sometimes called).

Sometimes this is called Brown's Gas (an unfortunate name for a clean, green fuel named after Yull Brown) or sometimes it is also called Klein Gas after Denny Klein who has created the Aquygen powered car that has sparked controversy from day one. No matter what you call it, the substance starts as water and becomes its two components, hydrogen and oxygen and is injected into the cylinders of the automobile to help it burn more cleanly.

Sure, the delayers and denier would have you believe this is snake oil. But, it is not. Water-powered cars are proven science clear and simple. Remember when the delayers and deniers would have you believe that global warming wasn't real either?

Anyway, running your car on water is a simple feat anyone can do. And, now many products are available on the market to do just this.

Problem isn't that we cant produce energy in pakistan problem is all of the IPP in pakistan are either politicians themselves or their immediate family members .

Since power produced from oil is extremely expensive compare to coal which means politicians putting themselves out of business and that is why these kinds of projects have been on the books and talked about but never materialized.

Because Thar coal is of the low grade lignite type, with the added problems of mixed in rocks and soil. It is cost-prohibitive to generate electricity from such a poor quality energy resource on a large scale, given current constraints.

water is one of the resultant emissions of combustion, as such its like trying to burn ash, not gonna work because ash is the result of something being burned already. the splitting of water into hydrogen and oxygen is common, any 10 year kid can do it but the energy you get from using the resultant gas is far less than the energy you spent to get the gas from water in the first place hence making it as useless as current attempts at fusion but fusion has better prospects because it doesn't break any laws of physics, unlike the process described here for a self powering water car in a closed loop, essentially they are talking about perpetual energy and as any educated person know is not possible here on earth.

now is a water "powered" car possible, yes of course it is, but you wouldn't really be powering it with water, you simply using a giant battery to split the water into hydrogen and oxygen then burning that gas, the energy in the end really just comes from the battery, might as well just hook up the battery directly to the motor you would actually go further than trying to split H2O with it

I don’t mean to cast a slur on your knowledge of Thermodynamics. However, Gibbs energy or Gibbs free energy as you have called it a very difficult abstract concept and your post indicates that you have not fully understood it.
This was first coined by James Willard Gibbs in 1873.

The Gibbs Free Energy is a thermodynamic quantity which can be used to determine if a reaction is spontaneous or not. The definition of the Gibbs free energy is

∆G = ∆H- T∆S

Where ∆G is the free energy, ∆H is the enthalpy and ∆S is the entropy
Entropy is also a measure of the tendency of a process, such as a chemical reaction, to proceed in a particular direction and therefore entropy is an expression of disorder or randomness.

Second law of thermodynamics states that the entropy of an isolated system always increases or remains constant. Enthalpy is a measure of total energy of a thermodynamic system. The total enthalpy, H, of a system cannot be measured directly. Most common measure is the change in enthalpy.

Enthalpy of formation of water is -285.83 KJ/mol. Enthalpy of splitting of water is exactly the same?

Car can run on hydrogen or any combustible liquid or gas. Per JW Gibbs equation, since Enthalpy of formation of water and splitting is the same; you cannot split water using car battery, run the car on the hydrogen thus formed and recharge the battery from the car running solely on hydrogen produced thru splitting the water as there is no extra/ free energy leftover to run the car.


Hydrogen Fuel cells have been with us since 1959. In fact US have spent millions on research but todate no Hydrogen Fuel cell car is being produced which costs the same as gasoline/diesel powered cars.

Most promising fuel cell is Polymer Exchange Membrane Fuel Cell or PEFMC. Here the pressurized hydrogen gas (H2) enters the fuel cell on the anode side. This gas is forced through the catalyst by the pressure. When an H2 molecule comes in contact with the platinum on the catalyst, it splits into two H+ ions and two electrons (e-). The electrons are conducted through the anode, where they make their way through the external circuit (doing useful work such as turning a motor) and return to the cathode side of the fuel cell.

Meanwhile, on the cathode side of the fuel cell, oxygen gas (O2) is being forced through the catalyst, where it forms two oxygen atoms. Each of these atoms has a strong negative charge. This negative charge attracts the two H+ions through the membrane, where they combine with an oxygen atom and two of the electrons from the external circuit to form a water molecule (H2O).
This reaction in a single fuel cell produces only about 0.7 volts. To get this voltage up to a reasonable level, many separate fuel cells must be combined to form a fuel cell stack. Bipolar plates are connecting one fuel cell to another and are prone to corrosion.

Please note that this requires Hyrdogen & Oxygen gas under pressure and hydrogen obtained from electrolysis from water as indicated by Mr. Waqar is not suitable.

I repeat, a car cannot run on water alone as claimed by the Khairpur Engineer Waqar. Anyone who concurs with this has no knowledge of Science or thermodynamics and is not worthy of being Chairman of PCSIR.

The fact that Dr Pervez is Chairman of the PCSIR: proves that currently in Pakistan merit has no place and only nepotism/toadyism is the way forward.
