Come on, is one party really to blame? This is the culture in India, beauacracy, corruption, inefficiency etc. Are you saying before 2004 things were much/any better?? No they weren't and one GOVT can't be blamed for all that is wrong in India- it problems existed before and they sure will after (unfortunately). The BJP really is no better.


+ anyways the boats are operated by the MUMBAI POLICE so they come under the jusrisdictioj ofmthe Mahrastra GOVT/Mumbai GOVT so it is THEIR failure and THEIR red-tape that has lead to this ridiculous situation. I mean you can't expect a government of a country (especially given the size of India) to micro manage EVERY SINGLE aspect of GOVT, the bashing of UPA isnjust the "in thing" right nowmbeing used to cover up systemic problems. I don't particualry have any political affiliation or affection for UPA but it angers me they are being used as scapegoats to avoid asking MUCH harder questions.

Seriously are you telling me you do not know that Congress is in power in Maharashtra too? I agree BJP is not great, but for the states I have seen, they have provided better governance. Congress on the other hand is full of looters only.

This is sad but inevitable in a country like India. buying these boats was the easy decision, keeping them running is not as simple & requires resources to be provided on a continuous basis. We are not the U.S. where we have enough of a budget to do anything we want. What happens is that the police officials will determine that their budget is spent on what is actually happening in the city rather than on boat rides chasing most of the time) ghosts. We need to revamp our whole policing system and if a coastal surveillance unit is needed, then a separate budget for it is necessary. Can't possibly ask the police to use its limited budget running behind mirages.

blaming congress for there past mistakes and we have to suffer from them like License Raj??? the red tape and socialist policies of Nehru which made India's economy suffer for years until reforms in 91, even today the red tape and bureaucracy exists India needs much needed reforms still and your not going to see that with the Congress party

the Coast guard should operate them or at least the Mumbai force 1 or ATS maybe even install a medium power radar on the coast or have a UAV fly and keep a watch over the coast line to prevent 26/11 type attacks

Don't you think the BJP had its share of scandals when it was in power. I wouldn't like to dig up things from the past, look at the present Mining scam in Karnataka, Land grabbing by the CM of K'taka, corruption in Uttarakhand.
