Pakistan's stubbornness costing US Rs 2019 crore a month!

.
During these entire years of WoT, Pakistan had the chance of being a part of the solution.

It chose to be a part of the problem.

Pakistan becoming a part of the problem, especial thanks go to India, had India not been trying to .... around Afghanistan with its anti-Pakistan activities, may be by now the problem had much been solved.

It's more of Loss to Pakistan than the U.S.,

Surely this whole US-Pak Debacle will help Afghanistan rise in to a string regional Player challenging Pakistan and Iran in decade or two.

I love the optimism our neighbors show.

Keep it up.

@tamikhan
if that was a plan and you fell for it ? You should have been more competetive when you draw your strategy.. And your current strategy is going nowhere ..

Everything is India's fault.

Nops, we are to be blamed also, rather most of the blunders are ours.

We did not took smart decisions.

I see a lot of Indians justifying how America can make do with the increased expenses out of Pakistan's aid cuts, what you don't understand is that money is not the object of discussion here.

1) America wants these routes to be opened not because they can't pay for alternate arrangements but because the sheer volume of supplies they can haul through these routes is greater than any other, especially through air.
2) Pakistan wants these closed because it is now a matter of national consensus that these routes remain closed until a public apology for the Salala Incident is issued unconditionally, secondly, fairer terms are granted to Pakistan in this "Alliance", so far, we have been the scapegoat for everything gone wrong whereas we have been doing everything right. My men are still waiting on the border of the Bajaur Agency, waiting for the Americans/NATO/ANA to drive the Taliban through the Kunnar region to the mountains, where they were supposed to rendezvous back in 2009!

NATO: Pakistan may be unwelcome at Afghan War summit

By Olivier Knox, May 11, 2012

When President Barack Obama welcomes NATO leaders to Chicago in ten days for a high-stakes summit on the war in Afghanistan, there could be a big gap in the alliance's talks on strategy — a hole the size and shape of Pakistan.

NATO Secretary-General Anders Fogh Rasmussen strongly suggested at his monthly press conference on Friday that Pakistan would not be welcome at the May 20-21 gathering unless it reopens key supply routes into Afghanistan.

"We have actually invited a number of countries from the region -- neighbors of Afghanistan, Central Asian countries, Russia -- because they provide important transit arrangements to the benefit of our operation," he said.

"But, as you also know, our transit routes through Pakistan are currently blocked so we have to continue our dialogue with Pakistan with a view to finding a solution to that because that's really a matter of concern," Rasmussen said.

The secretary general also echoed past statements from leaders like President Barack Obama that no Afghanistan war strategy can ultimately be successful without Pakistan's help.

"If we are to ensure long-term peace and stability in Afghanistan, we also need a positive engagement of Pakistan," he said.

White House officials declined to comment on the record about Rasmussen's comments. But an administration official, speaking on condition of anonymity, told Yahoo News that "The U.S. and NATO want to see these lines opened up, and it would be preferable to have Pakistan participating in Chicago."

"But we'll have to see what progress Pakistan can make in the coming days to determine whether they might ultimately be issued an invitation," the official said. Rasmussen's comments came two weeks after the Pentagon released an Afghanistan war progress report that highlighted "both long-term and acute challenges" of the conflict, and warned that the Taliban and their al-Qaida allies "still operate with impunity from sanctuaries in Pakistan."

"The insurgency's safe haven in Pakistan, as well as the limited capacity of the Afghan government, remain the biggest risks to the process of turning security gains into a durable and sustainable Afghanistan," according to the report.

The summit in Chicago aims to fine-turn the alliance's strategy in Afghanistan, which calls for shifting the burdens of securing the strife-torn country to local forces and withdrawing NATO's combat troops by the end of 2014. Obama paid an unannounced visit to Afghanistan May 1 and signed an agreement with Afghan President Hamid Karzai that could have some American troops stay there until 2024 to train local forces and carry out counter-terrorism strikes.

"In Chicago, the international community will express support for this plan and for Afghanistan's future," Obama said in a televised speech from Bagram Air Base. "And I have made it clear to its neighbor -- Pakistan -- that it can and should be an equal partner in this process in a way that respects Pakistan's sovereignty, interests and democratic institutions.

Why don't you advice the same to the Americans ?? 100K troops for a country which is bigger then Iraq, which got 400K troops as occupational force. Isn't that a disparity ??

Why don't you ask the americans to bring in additional 100-150K troops and seal the border and kill whatever moves.

We tried the same thing, but you know what happened, US left its border positions when we launched operation in SWA, and militants crossed over to Afghanistan and when we launched cleaning operation, US left Kunar and Nooristan wide open and all the militants from bajaur ran and are now safely living in those provinces and launching cross border attacks which has claimed so far dozens of lives, military and civilians.

Thus, advice first your best friends and then come and lecture us. We have deployed more soldiers then what the Americans have in whole of Afghanistan and we have lost more men compared to them.

.....................
At the end of the day, some deal would have to be made to get things going. One thing for sure, neither side will be able to hang on to their "principled" stand on this issue. There will have to be some giving in by both sides.

That is the very definition of successful negotiations, and I hope that an arrangement is finalized soon. It is pretty late in the day as it is.

............. we know what US is capable of and what not.

Actually, it is USA that knows the best what it is capable of and what not.

Pakistan becoming a part of the problem, especial thanks go to India, had India not been trying to .... around Afghanistan with its anti-Pakistan activities, may be by now the problem had much been solved................

It is always someone else's fault, isn't it? Denial runs deep with you Sir. No, wait, there is this post:

Nops, we are to be blamed also, rather most of the blunders are ours.

We did not took smart decisions.................

The party with the most blunders pays the heaviest price. Actually, that is exactly what is happening, is it not? May be you are not in denial after all, just too embarrassed to admit it and too frantic to think straight, nationally speaking of course, not personally.

Take a deep breath to clear your mind. That will help you take smarter decisions from now on so that future blunders are minimized and the resultants costs in blood, toil and resources fall.

.................it is now a matter of national consensus that these routes remain closed until a public apology for the Salala Incident is issued unconditionally, secondly, fairer terms are granted to Pakistan in this "Alliance", so far, we have been the scapegoat for everything gone wrong whereas we have been doing everything right. ...............

So saying "sorry" is all it takes and Pakistan is not getting even that. Hmmmmm, should tell you something: Either the routes are not as important as are being made out to be and Pakistan is being herded into a trap it is falling for hook, line and sinker, or USA is thinking as childishly as Pakistan is. Somehow, I suspect it is the former choice and not the latter.

The "fairer" terms that the PCNS lists are more like "pie-in-the-sky" than "fair". Perhaps a more realistic set of terms needs to be proposed.

Okay, how does "we have been doing everything right" reconcile with "most of the blunders are ours" above?

I am not here to score points .. I wanted to convey.. this is a do or die situation .. A cornered tiger is more dangerous than real tiger .. As it is becoming clearer that these extremist forces are still surviving, breeding and will acquire great strength if go unchecked .. You have a chance to wipe them out till americans are here .. Tomorrow if they leave you have to make compromise with devil for your survival.. Your society is at stake .. They will try to spread their ideology in to whole of pakistan .. If you are unable to defeat them with the help of superpower then how can you expect yourself to control them all alone .. Its an idea which you have to defeat ...this idea can spread like a disease and in no time it can engulf a whole society ..try your best to give your children the life of freedom which you enjoyed ..thats what matters .. Not any silly differences between you and your ally ..

That's why we want American idiots to stop drone attacks and quit fooling around in Afghanistan. They are indirectly or directly supporting Talibanization in this region.

Merely wanting the drone attacks to stop is not going to be enough. Pakistan also has to do their part.
