Nawaz Sharif went to the US because he had no idea what was going on at the LoC. He and Mushy didn't like each other by now because Nawaz was not in on what was going on. He did not like this, and wanted the conflict ended so he could prevent Mushy from becoming a hero and to think of ways to remove him.

That is the exact point. Pakistan never mentioned anything about the use of nukes during Kargil. These weapons actually held both sides back/restrained.

I am not so sure of that....nobody got the boot for starting the bloody mess in Siachen on the Indian side. So lets not get carried away with this assumption about being taken to task in India. The 62 war between China and India started because some in the IA and MoD thought that they would go unchallenged by the Chinese side....the reality of that miscalculation is for all to see.

Man, if what he says is true, and I don't see why he would belittle his position/pak army given that the book is full of several self praising and outright exaggerations, then pak would really have been caught with their pants down. How could he have then planned the Kargil if the nukes were not operational and how can he boast that the kargil was a master plan when nukes were not operational. If India had indeed responded the way it did in 1965 (responding to similar infiltration by pak) and launched an all out war, and pakistan retaliated without nukes, there was going to be only one winner, the one with the nukes. With a non functional nuclear delivery system, pak would have been wiped out. Scary thought. And the mushy claims kargil was a great deed. Indeed.

Call it an intelligence failure for the Indian Government. Regardless of whatever. Pakistan had the guts to conduct the military operation, even when it knew that it didn't have strategic force & nuclear missiles ready. It was not that easy for India to attack Pakistan. Whilst on your way back to reality you MAY want to check Mushy's comments about even him not knowing where the nukes were, and in what states they exactly were.
