What's new

20 Years of Nukes: What have we learnt?

Nukes are not the country killers that the media portray it to be. (Especially the untested low yield bluff bombs.)

With the level of advancements in iterative technological sophistication , the cost of all out war keeps increasing.

The cost to rebuild these advanced manufacturing ecosystems are tremendous. This is what is keeping Pakistan away from all out aggression.

The fact that you have very little to lose.

Then again , every challenge has a solution from a problem solving perspective , All out war is not necessary anymore.
Violence is the last refuge of the incompetent.

What if Pakistan didn't have nuclear weapons?

Salaam

Nukes made us complacent. Nukes plug a vital gap in our defensive structure but it isn't the only aspect of our defense. Unfortunately, it appears many in our leadership thought once we had nukes, there was no need to worry about other aspects of defense and development too much.

The biggest most important but that was ignored was economy because somehow it was thought that now that we had nukes it wasn't as important to keep up with India and our external foes. We were covered and so the decade and a half long corruption cycle began that has brought us to where we are.

We need to focus not just on our economy but also on society. Our education is in shambles and so is our human resource development. Our justice system ranks very low for a reason etc

We have to work equally hard to maintain the gains we have made as well as look at the other weaknesses and tackle them all.

We have made good progress on our military defense but there is much more to a nation than its military. We need to build up our other defenses as well.

Our men and women in and out of uniform die every week by India-backed proxies while we continue to manifest a defensive, denial-based posture which not only weakens deterrence, rather literally rolls out the red carpet for the enemy.
We could say the same for India. We also kill their men and women in uniform in occupied Kashmir. Other parts of India aswell.

Please compare the statistics (both in terms of number and rank of the deceased on either side). Deterrence is premised on stability = some sort of equality in tit-for-tat response. It breaks down otherwise, like it has.

If Pakistan did not have nukes then we would be in a far worst position than Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria and Libya.

You have literally restated the second line of my post. I agree with you.

For Pakistan, its strategic nuclear weapons are a deterrent against large scale aggression. Just see what happened in Ukraine. With hostile neighbours on the eastern and western flanks, Pakistan knows all too well the "minimal deterrence" doctrine works.

I agreed!

The same goes for India vS china scenario... A nuclear-capable India can neutralize China.

China will never plan to go direct war with India and even during the WAR between India and Pakistan... They will never get involved directly... During the war between both the countries, many countries will indirectly get involved including china.
