Several terrorists were killed late on Thursday in South Waziristan in the first night-time strike by Pakistan’s first indigenous armed drone, ‘Burraq’, Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) said.

It was Buraaq’s first airstrike in the dark hours and took place with pinpoint accuracy, a source told The Express Tribune.

The development took place after airstrikes by fighter jets killed 21 militants near the Pak-Afghan border, said an ISPR press release.

“Twenty-one militants were killed in air trikes in Rajgal and Tirah areas of Khyber Agency,” Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement on Wednesday.

22 terrorists killed in Shawal air strikes: ISPR

Earlier on October 11, at least 22 terrorists were killed in air strikes by Pakistani warplanes in the North Waziristan tribal agency before dawn.

Six compounds of terrorists were decimated in the air raids in Shawal Valley, according to the military’s media wing. The strategic valley is located on the confluence of borders between North and South Waziristan agencies.

The military has been engaged in a massive operation, codenamed Zarb-e-Azb, in North Waziristan since mid-June 2014. Most parts of the agency, once a stronghold of local and foreign militants, have been purged of terrorists.

However, some militants are holed up in the thickly forested Shawal Valley, which is now regarded as the last bastion of militants. The military mounted a ground offensive in Shawal in August, this year, after softening targets with air strikes

Multiple suspected militants were killed by a drone strike carried out by the indigenously produced 'Burraq' drone on Thursday, said a statement released by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
The drone strike was carried out in the region of South Waziristan.
“A drone strike by a 'Burraq' drone was carried out in South Waziristan and targeted terrorists’ hideouts,” stated ISPR.
It is pertinent to mention that this is the second confirmed drone strike by a Pakistani manufactured 'Burraq' drone.
The armed drone was used for the first time since its development in November 2013.
Pakistan already has several types of unarmed surveillance drones in operation, but ‘Burraq’ and ‘Shahpar’ were the first surveillance drones to be developed locally.
‘Burraq’ was developed alongside ‘Shahpar’ in cooperation with the National Engineering and Scientific Commission (NESCOM), which is a civilian controlled Pakistani scientific research organisation.
Pakistan Army had tested ‘Burraq’ armed with laser-guided ‘Barq’ missile for the first time on March 14, 2015. Both Burraq drone and Barq missile, according to the army, have been indigenously developed.
The trials were witnessed by Army Chief Gen Raheel Sharif who said it was a “great national achievement and momentous occasion”.
Pakistan had long aspired to have armed drones for bolstering its counter-terrorism capacity, but was only offered surveillance drones.
The efforts to indigenously develop drone capability were first reported in 2009.

Well done. We need to utilize air warfare as much as possible to minimize personnel losses. Good work sending those worthless murderous inhumane creatures to hell and we need to continue this good work till shawal valley and all of Pakistan is free from terrorism. Slowly shawal valley will be liberated from these monsters... Need to make sure those running in Afghanistan never come back.
