What's new

Pakistan's First Liver Transplant Surgery

The another important aspect of the good news is that liver was donated by Mohammad Arsalan, a 16-year-old 10th class student of Muslim Town, who unfortunately died due to car accident.

This is very important to educate people that 'donating their body parts' to save lives of others is in no way 'be hurmati' of the dead body..

as per what i've been told, the doctor was not qualified to have carried out such an operation.....the fact that he fled from the country to avoid prosecution means that he was most likely guilty

I am not in the medical field. Again, i am basing what I know on what I heard or what i've been told by people who are more well-versed on the subject and well-versed on what happened.

when malpractice leads to complications, that's when ethical and legal issues arise

i do agree with your other points they must be taken into consideration; there is major risk involved in such complex procedures. Things dont always go as planned.
if doctor was not qualified then he must be charged with murder.....
sometimes things are totally different as they seems
agreed about 3rd point but sometimes complication arises without malpractice
its unfortunate that in our country thousands of quacks are practicing and there in no check and balance system for them and many people lost their lives in the hands of these neem hakeems

It indeed is great news for Pakistanis... I for one have first hand experience of what the family of the patient goes through in such a tough time. You live and die every day, every moment, with hope and despair alternating on such a frequency that even the most stubborn of men is left with no option but to prostrate before the ALMIGHTY and seek HIS Mercy! Insaan waqi bohat baybas hai ALLAH k samnay.

I, for one am extremely pleased and grateful to ALLAH that such a facility is now available to Pakistanis within their homeland. All my prayers are with them.

of course I am interested in knowing how much it costs...... bandey da koi pata lagda a :D

well as per my source, the rough estimate regarding the cost for such procedure is approx. Rs. 20 plus lakhs as initially they are getting everything put together and units formed.. and yes, Pakistan Govt will push for such liver transplant units all over Pakistan..The 2nd major step of our Govt is to open the same unit at Islamabad PIMS hospital for which they are asking some of these doctors to join.... lets hope for the best...

regarding aam aadmi to have all these health care facilities, yes they can avail through the Zakat units made in all govt hospitals...

but in practice, if govt money is squandered away (like what happened with Hajj funds) then it will be more difficult to accomplish....

but overall, from this time onwards Pakistanis will have this facility inside of Pakistan.

I've heared that the cheapest operation is done in India which costs about 50 lakh PKR ....

In fact the youngest patient to get a liver transplant in india is a one year old pakistani kid.According to this article it cost them only INR12 lakh which is about PKR 24 Lakh..

.
well that's india.....as i have ascertained, sending patients overseas to London or Bahrain/Dubai and US can be considered closed chapter.

it's cheaper now in Pakistan than india or any of these other places.
