Pakistani Thermal Imager for T-85, T-80ud

delicious website yaar !

So much in-house development has taken place in Pakistan and most of us do not know anything !

wait a minute...is this a private industry for manufacturing defence items...if it is so then its great..look at the other items they are very hot.

Pakistan growing expertise in MBT arena.... :pakistan:

::GLOBAL INDUSTRIAL AND DEFENCE SOLUTIONS ::

This Thermal Imager is NOT indigenous but rather a collaboration between the French firm Sagem and GIDS. Sagem had secured a contract for installation of 900 Catherine thermal imaging systems onto the T-85 and T-80UD tanks. However and because of the installation problems with the T-85, the installation part was sub-contacted to GIDS which is now also pushing the same TI as one of its own products. Smoke and Mirrors really!

Being an engineer, i hope i can set up a firm to supply Pakistan with such goodies....

Wish me luck :)

An EXTREMELY DIFFICULT thing by a private party to do in Pakistan. Others have tried and failed miserably in the past.

They never claimed the imager is entirely theirs in the website and clearly mentioned Catherine brand name but emphasis was more on integration. Catherine is a brand of Thales not Sagem. Anyway, the integration work and many technologies are developed as this is as much a GIDS project as it is French.

Yes. Apologies for the mistake. Catherine FC TI is indeed Thales!!

The only reason Thales has asked GIDS for the integration because Thales itself was facing huge problems in the integration process on T-85's as the interior of no two tanks is seemingly alike! This was causing extra cost for the folks at Thales which was above and beyond their estimated cost for integration. A similar project with the Italian Galileo Thermal imager for Al-Zarrar is being carried out at the Heavy Industries Taxila

Let me add, the name of Italian imager is Thetis and it incorporates a FCS too and its more advanced version (ARES FCS) is also functional on Italian Ariet mbt.

THETIS
THETIS - Thermal Tank Infrared System is designed to provide tanks and combat vehicles with passive IR observation and accurate firing at night and in poor visibility conditions. Already selected by four International Armies, THETIS is composed of modular self-contained functional units, providing high flexibility in performance and installation without armour modifications. It can be configured as a main autonomous night Fire Control System or as an upgrade.

SELEX Galileo - Sights & Fire Control Systems

Now that's what iam talking about mashallah good for Pakistan :)

This reminded me a long conversation i had with zraver whether our mbts have Catherine TI or not and he was finding it difficult to swallow. Wonder what will he say if see this thread... :)
