Pakistani Students Tested Pakistan’s 1st Circular Airplane

Students at De:yahoo::yahoo::yahoo:partment of Aeronautics and Astronautics of Institute of Space Technology, Islamabad, successfully tested Pakistan’s first circular Unmanned Aerial Vehicle or UAV.

This unique in design, circular UAV is actually world’s only second UAV that was successfully rested; first one was tested by Japanese students but was different in design and mechanics.

Fully prepared and mastered by students of IST, though they sought help at some levels from their teachers, made this flying object in 4 weeks, and was successfully tested on April 13th, 2010.


An IST professor while speaking with ProPakistani termed this test a significant achievement – as this is in-house design, circular in making, and unique in achievement.

He said that this particular circular UAV is fuel efficient as it consumes less fuel by taking advantage of its circular wings and propeller at the front.

As communicated to us, due to its fuel efficient behavior, this design can be commercially used for UAVs; however, scaling it up for passenger and cargo lifting won’t be a possible for now.

I mean in Pakistan even if u build a robot nobody cares.......in india if u make a 6 wheeled cycle thts appreciated...kapish

we had a UAV competition last year; a mini chinook, but instead of the team the computer had to guide the UAV through certain waypoints and at every waypoint a different computer would take control and guide it to the next way point

and those guys were all under-grads

Not exactly what I thought it would be...

You know, the main components in that UAV are the radio-controlled aerilons, stabilizers and rudders, as well as the engine of the UAV. These main components were not built by the students, but procured from elsewhere.

When I was in my final year of engineering (2006-2007, India), my friends in Mechanical Engineering had also built a UAV that flew just as well. It is nothing more than an aerodynamic body attached to an engine and radio controllers. It is not at all difficult.

It is certainly a good start, and it gets a lot of attention, but not exactly an innovation...
