I don't think it always necessarily has something to do with bollywood i've seen plenty of pakistani girls/models wear it as like a fashion/cultural accessory.

contrary to what some Indians and some self hating pakistanis say majority of us know Hinduism/Buddhism was the native religion in what is now pakistan before the muslim conquests and we are not all arab wannabees trying to disown our native culture-we know there is strong hindu influence retained till this day (natural being part of the indian sub-continent there is nothing wrong in it). Afghans even call us hindus to try and insult us lol.
