JEDDAH: Several companies from Pakistan, specialized in the information technology sector, showcased their products and services at an exhibition in Jeddah on Sunday.
PITEX Jeddah 2011 was held at the Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCI).
Saudi Arabia is considered an attractive market for Pakistani products and services, said the consul general of Pakistan, Abdul Salek Khan.
Addressing the opening ceremony, he said Pakistans petrochemical industry could serve as a great trade opportunity to Saudi Arabia.
Pakistan also provides excellent investment and business consultancy services, he said.
The chief guest was Mazen Batterjee, deputy chairman of JCCI.
He inaugurated the exhibition, along with the consul general and Sarfraz Ahmad, Minister Commercial.
The consul general stressed the need for sustained interaction to strengthen bilateral economic cooperation.
Khan thanked the JCCI for hosting and promoting PITEX Jeddah 2011, where Pakistani companies displayed their services in the field of software and information technology.
We need to go a long way to explore the ways and means to increase economic and commercial cooperation between the people of Saudi Arabia and Pakistan which can complement each other and lead to enhanced trade in goods and service, said the consul general.
He voiced hope the successful conclusion of the exhibition would lead to more trade between the two states.
Batterjee said the show would help strengthen the existing relations between the people and governments of Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.
He highlighted the tremendous progress made in the Kingdom, which offers excellent opportunities to all trade sectors, with a special focus on IT development.
He also urged the participants to take advantage of soft loans provided by the Islamic Development Bank to enhance trade within the OIC.
Ten Pakistani companies put up catalogs, brochures and other publicity material of their products and services.
Saudi businessmen showed keen interest in them.
