LAHORE: The Chairman Ansar Burney Trust International and former Federal Minister for human rights, Ansar Burney in his humanitarian efforts for the release of four Pakistanis captured by Somali Pirates eight months ago decided to go to Cairo, Egypt on Monday to meet the owner of the ship.

The health condition of the Pakistani Captain of the Vessel, Syed Wasi Hassan was getting worse day by day because of being a diabetic patient.

Ansar Burney said that since the Egyptian owner of the Vessel M.V. Suez had refused to support the affected families for the release of Indians and Pakistanis, the Ansar Burney Trust on humanitarian grounds had decided to meet Mohamed Sobh in Egypt and involve him in negotiations with pirates for the release of Pakistanis, Indians and other crew members of the Vessel.

The United Nation’s Expert Advisor on human rights in this regard also met with the Ambassador of Egypt Mr. Magdy Amer, in Islamabad.

MV Suez was hijacked by the Somali pirates in the Gulf of Aden on August 02, 2010, with 6 Indians, 4 Pakistani, 4 Sri Lankans and 11 Egyptians on board.

I couldn't find a thread on it.It seems, like the GOP we are also losing the feeling of love and emotions which should bother us (atleast) to share their sufferings.

Are we becoming immune to such type of news day by day?? .....tragic i must say.

Considering the efforts we are putting in “Aman 2011 exercise” against pirates,it’s a shame when our own men are detained by those butchers ,an irony really.

Will it not be good if we extend our efforts beyond the scope of Aman 2011 (just this time atleast) and with the help of other countries help those innocent people ........all of them, the Pakistanis ,Indians,Srilankans and egyptians on board.

Stronger efforts for Pakistanis held by Somali pirates: FO

ISLAMABAD: The Senate Standing Committee on Interior directed the Foreign Ministry on Saturday to make ‘all-out efforts’ for the release of Pakistanis detained by the Somalian pirates.
The committee issued the directives during a meeting in which Foreign Ministry officials informed that 11 Pakistanis are in custody of the Somalian pirates.
The abductees were working for different private companies and were taken into captivity a year ago.
The pirates have demanded 2.3 million dollars in ransom while negotiations are underway to secure the safe release.
The committee directed the ministry to present a report within 5 days that sought an explanation from the Pakistani ambassadors deputed in the concerned countries.

I just can't believe that the top notch of Pakistan Navy will be unaware of the situation there too.Just think for a moment, 11 countries have brought their fire power and stuff ,just to practice these sort of situations and the country that is hosting this all , has her own countrymen suffering from menace right now........

Just pondering what our Admiral will be thinking about it.

Pakistani Navy should go and rescue the captives. Covert methods can be used to fool the pirates. Overall Pakistan Navy needs to open fire and blast the pirates. Pakistani citizenship has to be respected, and one way of doing that is if PN will safeguard Pakistani citizens especially in nearby seas and territories if need be. This is a perfect case.

India has helped US before and did a superb work against pirates at situation where US said "we can't get any more".
IF asked and than delivered by indian marine forces, it would be great gesture for path on peace.

these pirates have become a menace for everyone.....In the very beginning, i had some sympathy for them --at least the ones who were former fishermen whose waters were being polluted by all the international transit. But now, this is beyond ridiculous. They arent petty thieves with a few small arms. They are heavily armed and increasingly sophisticated --(no) thanks to all the ransom moneys that have already been payed to them

I think that once Pakistani Navy can spare some patrol vessels, we should get involved with counter-piracy operations and sea patrolling. We can't be having our nationals constantly endangered by these pathetic crooks.

this is partly the result of Somalia's lack of government for over a generation now; and my worry is that piracy will become a global menace like terrorism. Already some Yemeni nationals are known to be collaborating with the Somali pirates. This is a problem. It must be nipped in the bud

The Somali pirates are increasingly growing into an organized army and have been able to conduct these kidnappings and hijackings at free will. The international community should step up in setting up safe passage corridor for the shipping vessels. It is rapidly growing into a thriving industry for them.
