Pakistani-Americans: Stand Up and Be Counted in Census 2010

US Census 2010 is under way! It is an extensive exercise that happens once a decade and it produces data that guides the the various branches of US government and its agencies, politicians, marketers, and just about every one else who needs America's demographics data.

The numbers produced by the Census drive the allocation of seats in the US Congress, budget appropriations, government policies, college enrollment, as well as big decisions on products, employment and target markets by private corporations targeting American consumers.

Given the great significance of the Census 2010 results, it is extremely important for Pakistani-Americans to stand up and counted. They must fill out the forms and send them in for the sake of their local communities, and for their own sake. Please understand that the ten minutes you take to fill out the Census 2010 form will have a significant impact on you and your local communities for the next ten years.

This year, among the various racial categories, there is an opportunity to fill out PAKISTANI in the "other Asian" field to ensure the full recognition of the population of Pakistani-Americans (both citizens and non-citizens) residing in the United States. Upon request, the Census Bureau will provide you the form in Urdu language. The information provided on census forms is protected by the law, and it can not be used for any purpose other than for the count 2010.

I appeal to all Americans and American residents, including Pakistani-Americans, to fulfill their civic duty of ensuring correct US census results in 2010.

Sardar Ji , wake up there have been changes to Screening policy esp. regarding Pakistan. Pakistan was promised this by Hilrahi Clinton few days back.

Sir, I find it amusing as you, being living in India, are acting like know it all. Let me tell you that no one is above the law and rest assured you will not be bothered if you are a good citizen and always follow the law.

I live in USA and fly extensively across the USA for business and personally have not seen any problem what so ever. As a matter of fact, my white co-workers have been pulled more often than me for screening on the airports. So man chill and mind your own business and let other worry for any issues they might foresee.

Good for you sir, You can't say as pakistani proudly and loudly in USA. That is fact. You can't see any restuarant or store as Pakistani. They just put india name also there. Like "Indian and pakistani restaraunt". Indian establishment don't put pakistan name in their business.

You are mistaken and must be talking about Sikh community in Canada especially in Vancouver area where she is being treated like trash and the most hated one by the locals. And That's the fact. And how about in India? Do I need to tell you? Even in USA, they have been beaten and abused more often than any one else. So, please take care of yourself and give me a favor by not worrying about Pakistanis. Pakistanis have no problem in USA and are living happily and proudly. There are many Pakistani restaurants and stores and at least I have not seen any Pakistani using Indian name for his/her business as you claim. So keep on dreaming!

If you had contributed in similar fashion from the beginning and not indulged in India Bashing, it would have been an honor to learn from someone with as much as experience as you have. Please continue posting in a constructive manner such as this and not go back to the normal India Bashing, we are all here to learn from each other and im sure you have enough knowledge to give out.

Please carefully check out all of threads and posts on defence.pk todate. You'll find that most of them are not about India.
