i second that. oscars and nobel prizes are basically western awards.

Nobel Peace Prize. Others are given purely on merit.

lol @ the indians trying to convince pakistanis it's bad your all just haters fact is pakistan has celebrated it's first oscar and it was for something meaningful it won for best documentary it showed a real problem ,real people and the good work of the surgeon who returned to pakistan to help those women she made it not with any bad intentions but to help raise awareness of a problem so it can be fixed and to show the good work being done to help those women and message for pakistan that pakistanis can overcome any problem it's a real documentary not fake entertainment with actors like slumdog or just for a soundtrack .Fact is a Pakistani won an oscar and the country is happy for her win you haters can go jump under a bus

Hey congrats to Pakistan... and hope many more to come... aakhir ghar he aaya .. chahe hindustan ya pakistan jeet toh hum bhai logo ki hui :)

I feel the award was well deserved. Congrats Pakistan.

Leave it to Pakistanis to not appreciate when their fellow citizens accomplish something worth commending. Also, the fact that the documentary is based on such a tough subject should make it even more impressive. What is better than the voice of all these women being heard on the global stage? The more awards the better, the more publicity we can bring to these issues the better. Are we going to act like these problems don't exist? In such a case, there is a necessity for more such documentaries to be made; to wake the common Pakistani up from his slumber, and see the deplorable state of his/her country.
For all that has happened over the last decade and the amount of embarrassment we have received from Pakistanis in various walks of life...for a film maker to be rewarded with the greatest film making award of all, should be an accomplishment, all of us should be proud of. Instead we will trash this woman for this and continue wondering why nothing good ever happens to our nation...well, maybe it's because we don't look in the right places.

These is a difference. slumdog is an uplifting movie while this is a grim documentary.

You surely can't be serious, can you? If that was the case, why did we get to see this?

This documentary is definitely not as grim as Slum Dog Millionaire, as it shows a lot of people inside Pakistan that are trying to fight this social evil. It's a documentary about hope.

So Iranian movie that won Oscar is also a Zionist plot?

i can say that the Iranian movie is promoted to encourage iranian movie industry which helps to motivate people towards free media and then play some game behind that i guess.

Not all but many of the movies that promote a specific agenda are given awards. This way the film becomes a piece of propaganda of the establishment.

For example, Hurt Locker was a 'Red Neck Trailer Trash' recruitment video made to promote recruitment drive in US Army. (Very sorry about the pejorative term; it just sums up what the people of lower social background are termed as).

On the contrary, Avatar was a movie against Capitalism, Colonialism and Military Industrial Complex. There was no chance of it getting an Oscar.
