Pakistan vs Namibia - T20 World Cup 2021.

Trumpelmann on a mission

Namibia have a special left-arm bowler in their set up. Ruben Trumpelmann doesn't have the pace of an Afridi, but he has the control and lateral movement that so many bowlers desire. Rizwan takes strike first ball, and after defending two length balls away, the batter is beaten on the outside edge on three occasions. Ball moving away twice, holding its line once, and Rizwan tentatively sees the over out with a back-foot defence off the last ball. After scoring 3, 7, and 10 in their previous first overs, Pakistan begin the game against Namibia with a maiden over! For all you fans of cricket quizzes, a reminder that Trumpelmann is the first man in history of T20Is to take three wickets in the first over of a game(achieving it against Scotland last week). Today's first over was also the first time Rizwan has batted out a maiden over in T20Is.

. . .
Is it really a World Cup if Pakistan have not lurched from crisis to catastrophe, and are not furiously mapping out probability trees, calculating net run rates, and praying that other teams help them sneak into the next round via the back door? Is it really a World Cup if Pakistan are not unpredictable, flawed and dispirited, and when rumours about infighting and leaks to the media aren't flying around unfettered? Is it really a World Cup if Pakistan look this... good?

Eight days ago, Pakistan had ahead of them games against India, New Zealand and Afghanistan to kick off the tournament with interim head coaches, and batting and bowling consultants with negligible consulting experience.

There was plenty of dark humour about Pakistan being eliminated by the time these games were done, but it almost rang too true to be amusing.

Eight days on, India have been decimated by ten wickets and New Zealand and Afghanistan seen off with the sort of ruthless efficiency characteristic of serial winners. With qualification to the semi-finals virtually guaranteed,

Pakistan can treat the upcoming games against Namibia and Scotland almost like bonus warm-up matches, the sort of luxury no Pakistan team would dream of basking in at this stage of a World Cup.

Pak need to up their run rate in the last 10 overs, anything below 160 will not be competitive.

.
Lot of shot pitch quick bowling going on … may be a ploy… have to increase the run rate now …
