Pakistan vs Kyrgyzstan: Who will get the UN Security Council Seat?


Pakistan & Kyrgyzstan are contesting for the Asian seat on the 15-member UN Security council being vacated by Lebanon. The election will take place on October 21.

I think Kygyzstan will take it - not because they are a powerful nation but only because they are contesting against Pakistan and we are not having good relationships with USA these days.

If that was happening 3 months ago or before Osama's death... I would have said other way around

Pakistan had that seat before so it can gain it again but it does not matter anyway - Even if we loose today - We can contest later on when Pakistan is strong..It's not like this seat has huge implications.The only power that matters in UN is veto - rest is all BS.If you have veto you can literally do anything.

Its good to see Pakistan being included in the UNSC and add to world security. But does recent events allow Pakistan
to work in a flexible way and gain the confidence of the world?This is a fact not only India needs to look at but every nation
in the upcoming UNSC vote.
At present I beleive it will not be in Pakistan's own interest to join UNSC die to various reason. So, Krygzstan should be
voted for. And there is always a next time.

First of all there is no way of knowing what Pakistan voted..But i will agree to the point that India & Pakistan have generally supported each other in such international endeavors.

India is voting for Kyrgyzstan Not because Kyrgyzstan will win it..but because India's vote will not change the balance which is highly favoring Pakistan this time.. India and Kyrgyzstan had a deal by which Kyrgyzstan would support India's nomination in return for India's support to them when Kyrgyzstan's turn comes..

Kyrgyzstan has a very slim chance as they are not at all diplomatically powerful. They have less than 20 mission world wide with only very few of them very strong missions(India is one of them)

Very clever diplomatic move by India. Supporting Kyrgyzstan will be win-win from India's point of view as it would keep the promise to Kyrgyzstan and also not jeopardize relations with Pakistan atleast in such UN matters.

P.S: If Pakistan loses this it will not be because of Kyrgyzstan's popularity but Pakistan's unpopularity.
