The BSF and the Pakistan Rangers on Tuesday held a commander-level flag meeting at the International Border (IB) and expressed a commitment to each other to maintain peace and tranquility at the border.

Signficantly, the paramilitary forces of the two countries tasked to guard the International Border held the meeting in Suchetgarh sector on a day the Indian Army said it had destroyed some Pakistani posts at the Line of Control (LoC) in Naushera sector.

BSF spokesman said the Commandant-Wing Commander level flat meeting was held at 11.30 am at the request of the Pakistan Rangers.

During the meeting, the commanders of the two forces “discussed various issues including recent unprovoked firing in Arnia Sector and other routine issues related to border management,” he said.

It was decided to re-energize instant communication between field commanders, whenever required, to resolve the petty matters, he said.

“The meeting was held in a cordial, positive and constructive atmosphere and both sides agreed for expeditious implementation of the decisions taken in the earlier meeting and committed to each other to maintain peace and tranquillity at International Border,” the spokesman said.

A group of Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) militants escaped after exchanging heavy fire with security forces in Hakdipora village of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district late Tuesday night, sources said.

“Security forces had laid siege around Hakdipora village and launched a search operation after inputs about the presence of LeT divisional commander Abu Dujana and his two associates. As the searches were on, militants present in the area opened fire on the search party and tried to break the cordon,” they said.

A police official said the security forces retaliated, triggering an encounter, which lasted for nearly half an hour. “The operation was stopped due to darkness to avoid any casualty. Security forces had sealed the entire area after reinforcement was rushed there from nearby camps,” he said.

However, reports said, as the news of the encounter spread, people from nearby villages reached the gunfight site and pelted stones on the forces personnel, who retaliated with teargas shells. The militants taking cover under darkness and support from the stone pelters managed to escape from the area,” the official said and added the operation was called off at around 7 am on Wednesday.

Stone pelting protests at the encounter sites have emerged as a major problem for security forces in Kashmir in last one year forcing Army Chief General Bipin Rawat to issue a warning in February that the civilian protesters obstructing encounters, would be treated as "over ground workers of terrorists" and dealt with "harshly."

Despite warnings and new strategies, security forces continue to face stiff resistance from local population during encounters with militants across Kashmir. The trend, which emerged from south Kashmir in 2014, gained momentum across Kashmir following the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen poster boy Burhan Wani by security forces in July last year.

“More than 30 militants have managed to flee the cordon in more than a dozen encounters in last few months due to the civilians marching towards encounter sites and pelting stones. In some cases Army is forced to withdraw the cordon to avoid collateral damage," a senior police official told DH.

An alert has been sounded in the border belt of Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir following reports about sighting of three armed men moving in suspicious manner in the area, the police said.

The border security force and the police have been put on high alert and security has been enhanced after the movement of the suspicious men was reported on Tuesday in Bobiyan area in Hiranagar sector of the International Border, a police officer said.

The security forces carried out a cordon-and-search but found nothing suspicious.

“We have analysed all these areas and conducted operation till Wednesday but nothing has been found,” the officer said.

In March 2015, two heavily-armed terrorists in Army uniform stormed a police station on the Jammu-Pathankot highway in Kathua, killing five people, before being gunned down by the state police and the security forces in a fierce gunfight.

Jammu: In a significant development, the Indian Army on Friday foiled a major infiltration bid allegedly backed by the Pakistani Border Action Team (BAT) along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Uri sector of Jammu and Kashmir.

According to PTI, two attackers have also been killed in the retaliatory firing by the Indian Army.

The action from the Army came in view of reports that members of BAT were planning an attack on the Indian patrol party, which triggered heavy shelling from the Indian side.

The bodies of two attackers killed by the Indian Army is said to be lying near the Line of Control at the moment.

The infiltrators were members of the Pakistan Army's Border Action Team or BAT, the Indian army said.

Through its tough response, the Indian Army also appeared to have avenged the May 1 beheading of two of its brave jawans by Pakistan's infamous BAT.

Pakistan's BAT is widely believed to be behind the beheading of Indian soldiers in the recent past.

BAT has also been accused of targeting Indian Border posts, assaults and brutality on soldiers along the Line of Control.

Pakistan's Special Services Group forms the core of BAT.

On May 1, while Pakistani troops were targeting two forward posts of the Indian Army with rockets and mortar bombs, BAT attackers moved in and beheaded two security personnel - BSF Head Constable Prem Sagar and Army Subedar Paramjeet Singh.

On October 28 last year, an Indian army soldier was killed and his mutilated body was abandoned near the LoC in the Machil sector.

In January 2013, Lance Naik Hemraj was killed and his body allegedly mutilated by BAT.

http://zeenews.india.com/india/hizbul-operative-remanded-in-judicial-custody-2009533.html

Maharajganj: Suspected Hizbul Mujahideen operative Naseer Ahmed was on Saturday remanded to 14-day judicial custody by a court here.

The CJM court sent Naseer, arrested by the Sashatra Seema Bal (SSB) from Sonauli on India-Nepal border earlier this month, to judicial remand, government counsel Raghuvansh Shukla said.

The court had earlier remanded Naseer in 12-day police custody as the Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorism Squad wanted to question him.

The Jammu and Kashmir Police had also sought his remand citing cases lodged against him there but the court disallowed it.

Naseer Ahmed alias Sadiq (34), hailing from Banihal in Ramban district of Jammu and Kashmir, was held on May 13 from Sonauli border post in Mahrajganj.

He was trying to sneak into India from Nepal in the guise of a carpet vendor, and was nabbed by the SSB, which guards the 1,751-km-long open border.

Naseer was carrying a Pakistani passport and an identity card showing that he was a resident of Lala Musa village in Punjab province of Pakistan. He was handed over to the Uttar Pradesh ATS for further investigation.

Naseer had joined Hizbul Muzahideen in 2002-03 and moved to Pakistan. He was allegedly involved in a number of terrorist activities.

In 2002, he sustained bullet injuries during an encounter with the Army in Banihal.

Naseer was residing in Pakistan since September, 2003, and was allegedly involved in many attacks against civilians and security forces including an attack on an STF camp in India in 2003.

He was sent to India by his handler for a specific mission, according to an SSB spokesperson had said.

The paramilitary, based on initial interrogation of the terrorist, said he and his accomplice Mohd Shafi landed in Kathmandu on May 10 from Faisalabad in Pakistan via Sharjah.

The SSB said Naseer reached the Indo-Nepal border in a bus with an intention to sneak into Indian territory and carry out terror activities in India.

"He was in touch with a handler from India, who used to deposit money, in his account, off and on. On his instructions, he came to India for undertaking terrorist activities but was apprehended by the SSB," the SSB said.

Home Minister congratulates CRPF and J&K police for their alertness and unmatched courage shown in CRPF's Sumbal camp

The Union Home Minister Shri Rajnath Singh congratulated the entire force of CRPF and the 45th battalion of CRPF in particular, and J&K police for their alertness and unmatched courage shown in CRPF's Sumbal camp today.

Following is the text of Home Minister’s statement:

“Early this morning at around 4 am a group of heavily armed Fidayeen terrorists approached the CRPF's Sumbal camp with the intent of breaching the camp. They were heavily armed with automatic rifles, grenades and incendiary material such as petrol, and were carrying dry rations which indicates they intended a prolonged siege and extensive damage.

The group attempted entry by cutting the wire fencing and also forcing their entry by shooting at the sentry. The sentries responded with alacrity to their efforts and returned their fire. Heavy exchange of fire took place, during which the terrorists lobbed more than two dozen grenades, in an attempt to escape. However the CRPF, in cooperation with force from the adjoining J&K police camp shot dead all the 4 terrorists

The CRPF jawans and J&K police showed exemplary courage and valour by thwarting the terrorists' attempt to enter the camp and in successfully eliminating all the terrorists.

Massive recoveries of arms and ammunition including grenades, explosives and automatic weapons have been made from these neutralised terrorists.

It is inspiring to see the CRPF jawans staying awake all night and maintaining tight vigil; and to see J&K police jawans coming to CRPF assistance quickly. Their joint efforts have brought glory to our forces.

The nation salutes and I congratulate the 45th battalion of CRPF in particular; and entire force of CRPF and J&K police for their alertness and unmatched courage. Commandant Shri Iqbal Ahmad, company commanders Shri Shankarlal Jat and Shri Pankaj Hallu, Guard Commander Shri Pankaj Kumar and Constables Shri K Dinesh Raja and Shri Praful Kumar, and all the brave officers and jawans posted at Sumbal camp, need to be cited for their alertness and unmatched bravery.”
