Pakistan Rangers violated ceasefire with heavy firing and mortar shelling overnight that targeted nine border outposts (BoPs) of the BSF in Samba district along the international border (IB), leaving a labourer injured.

The fresh round of ceasefire violations along the IB has killed one civilian and injured three so far.

“Pakistan Rangers resorted to unprovoked firing on BSF posts along IB in Samba sector from 2025 hours last night”, a BSF officer said.

The Rangers fired at nine BoPs of the BSF along IB in areas between River Basantar and River Treva in Samba sector, he said, adding that they used 82, 82 and 51 mm mortar bombs at few places along the IB.

BSF troops guarding the borderline retaliated resulting in exchanges which continued till 0220 hours on Saturday, he said. There was no loss of life on the Indian side but a civilian was injured.

A civilian was killed and two others were injured Friday evening in Mangu Chak border outpost.

Army recovers two explosive devices in Poonch - The Hindu

Army has recovered two explosive devices weighing 10 and 6 kgs in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir.

Based on the information of a Territorial Army Battalion, a search operation was launched on Saturday against a suspected hideout in general area of Lor Devta in Poonch district, a defence spokesperson said.

During the operation, a natural cave was found near a big boulder in which two huge gunny bag packets with wires jutting out were found, he said.

On closer inspection one pressure cooker based improvised explosive device (IED) was found in the first packet weighing approximately 10 kgs. In the second packet another IED based on a cylinder weighing around 6 kgs was found, he added.

Two civilians were injured in overnight shelling by Pakistan Rangers in Samba district of Jammu region, police said on Sunday.

“Pakistan Rangers started shelling and firing at 9.20 p.m. yesterday (Saturday) on the international border in Samba district,” a senior police officer told IANS in Jammu.

“The BSF (Border Security Force) effectively retaliated and the exchange of fire continued till 3 a.m. today (Sunday),” the officer said.

Two civilians — Kalasho Devi, 40, and Pritam Chand 45, both residents of Mawa village in Samba district were injured due to Pakistan shelling, the officer added.

“The station house officer (SHO) of the area took the injured in a bullet proof vehicle to Samba district hospital where the doctors referred Kalasho Devi to Government Medical College Hospital, Jammu.”

“Pakistan army also resorted to indiscriminate shelling and firing in Bobian village on the international border in Kathua district,” the police officer said.

“Pakistan shelling started at 11.30 p.m. on Saturday and continued till 2.30 a.m. today (Sunday). Details of any casualty or damage to life and property are awaited,” the officer said.

Around a dozen border villages were affected by shells fired from across the border. The firing started around 9 p.m. on Friday and continued up to Saturday morning.

“A befitting reply would be given to the perpetrators of violence. Peace along the IB and the Line of Control must be respected by the stakeholders,” said Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh. The dead civilian was identified as Raj Kumar (36). Reports said cattle, a house and a mini-bus bore the brunt of the shelling.

A Border Security Force official in Jammu confirmed attacks on at least nine border outposts. Pakistan’s fresh attempt to destabilise peace along the border comes days after its Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif sought U.S. intervention in the Kashmir issue, during his meeting with President Barack Obama in Washington.

J&K has witnessed 203 ceasefire violations this year, leaving 28 people dead and more than 160 injured.

Ceasefire violations spread in J-K, 6 civilians injured - The Hindu
Ceasefire violations by Pakistan on the International Border and Line of Control (LoC) on Monday spread to Kathua district in Jammu province. At least six civilians were injured in the overnight firing, taking the toll of civilian injured since Friday to 12.

Fresh reports from Jammu suggest that Pakistani troops fired at Kathua's border village of Bobiya since Sunday night. Six civilians, from four families, received injuries in the overnight firing, said reports.

A senior official told The Hindu all injured were shifted to hospital in bulletproof vehicles.

Pakistan violations along the LoC and IB is fast spreading since Friday ceasefire violation left a civilian dead in hilly district of Poonch.

From Chenab Valley's Poonch district, Pakistani troops are firing at border posts of the BSF in Jammu plains' border districts of Kathua and Samba now.

Pakistan mortal shelling and unprovoked firing was also reported in Hiranagar areas, where 14 BSF posts came under fire in the past 24 hours.

A district administration official confirmed damages to several houses in Hiranagar too.

The fresh spate of ceasefire violations have come after a lull observed since the September 21 flag meeting between Indian and Pakistani armies. The two countries had pledged to maintain sanctity of ceasefire.

Pak targets 30 BoPs, hamlets in Samba, Kathua sectors - The Hindu

Pakistan targeted 30 border outposts and several hamlets on Monday with mortar bombs and heavy machine guns in Samba and Kathua districts injuring a civilian, as it continued ceasefire violations for the fourth day.

“Pakistani Rangers resorted to unprovoked firing on BSF posts along the IB in Samba and Kathua districts from 1900 hours last night,” a BSF officer said.

“They fired 82 mm mortar shells and used heavy machine guns (HMGs) to target 30 BoPs and border villages in Ramgarh, Samba, Kathua and Hiranagar sectors”, he said.

BSF troops retaliated resulting in exchanges which continued till 0500 hours today, he said.

One villager was injured in the mortar shelling this morning in Ramgarh sector and hospitalised, a police officer said, adding that several cattle have died or were injured in the shelling.

The ceasefire violations by Pakistan, which had stopped after the Director General-level talks between BSF and Pakistan Rangers in Delhi on September 12, resumed on October 23 and a civilian has been killed and seven injured till now.

The civilian was killed and two others were injured when Pakistani troops indulged in heavy firing along the International Border in Mangu Chak border outpost on October 23.

One October 24, two civilians were injured in Pakistan firing along IB in Samba sector. A school bus, a private minibus and tractor were also damaged.

Two civilians were injured in Pakistani firing on Sunday.

Several villages, particularly Sujanpur, Mawa, Bhati and Bobiya were hit by mortar shells.

Authorities have advised villagers living along Indo-Pak Border in Samba district to stay indoors and at safer places during cross border shelling while police has put in place bullet proof vehicles for any emergency.

Encounter in Kashmir, Army jawan injured | Zee News

Srinagar: An army jawan was injured today in an encounter with militants in Pulwama district of Kashmir, police said.


The gunbattle broke out at Drabgam after security forces launched a cordon and search operation following information about presence of militants there, a police official said.

He said one army jawan sustained injuries in the exchange of firing between the two sides.

Further details of the incident are awaited, he added.

Two guerrillas, soldier killed in Kashmir gunfight | Zee News

Srinagar: Two militants and a soldier were killed in a gunfight between security forces and the guerrillas in Jammu and Kashmirs' Pulwama district on Monday, police said.

"Two militants and a junior commissioned officer (JCO) of the army were killed in the Drabgam village gunfight that started today (Monday) evening," a senior police officer told IANS here.

He said personnel of the 44 Rashtriya Rifles and police's Special Operations Group had surrounded the village on specific information about a group of militants hiding there but as they tightened the cordon, they were fired upon by the militants and retaliated, leading to the gunfight.

"The slain militants have been identified as Afaqullah Bhat and Abdul Manan Dar, while the soldier killed was identified as Naik Subedar KVS Reddy."

A pall of gloom descended on Mundlapadu village near Giddalur in Prakasam district after one of its proud sons was killed in a fierce encounter with ultras in Jammu and Kashmir on Monday night. Kankara Venkata Subba Reddy, 46, Junior Commandant Officer in the XIXth Engineering Regiment, was killed after insurgents opened fire at security personnel, according to information received by District Sainik Welfare Officer B. Ravi. The gun-battle also left two militants dead. “The body of the JCO is expected to reach Gannavaram airport, Vijayawada, on Wednesday morning, and it will be taken to his native village,” he said. Reddy is survived by wife K. Savitri, son Nagarjuna and daughter Kalpana. His son said: “We got information from the defence authorities on Monday that my father suffered bullet injuries, and there was nothing to worry. But, we got a call again this morning (Tuesday), informing us that he was no more.

LeT leader and Udhampur attack mastermind Abu Qasim killed in J&K encounter | Zee News

Srinagar: In a major success, Indian security forces killed top Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) terrorist, Abu Qasim, after several hours of intense gunbattle in Jammu and Kashmir's Kulgam district on Wednesday night.

According to Army officials, Qasim was killed in a late night encounter in the town of Kulgam in South Kashmir.

Security forces launched an operation in Khandipora village of Kulgam following information about presence of Qasim, an Army official said.

He said a fierce gun battle broke out at 2.00 am, leading to death of Qasim.

The operation began at 2 AM after intelligence that 28-year-old Qasim, a resident of Bhawalpur in Pakistan, was holed up in a house at Khandipura village in Kulgam, along with an accomplice, official sources said.

The village is located 80 kilometres from here.

A joint team of Army, police and para-military forces was rushed in and the village was cordoned off.

Meanwhile, Director General of Jammu and Kashmir Police K Rajendra said, "It was a great achievement for the security forces."

The wanted terrorist was the mastermind of Udhampur BSF convoy attack in which eight Army soldiers were killed in June 2013.

Earlier this month, Qasim had killed a police officer, Altaf Ahmad in Bandipora district.

The officials recovered an AK-47 rifle from the encounter site.

Srinagar: An army jawan was on Wednesday killed in a gunfight with militants in a forest area of Bandipora district, about 45 kms from here.

According to an army spokesman, the encounter broke out at around 4.45 PM after a joint team of army and police launched an anti-militancy operation in Buthoo forests after a tip-off about presence of militants there.

An army jawan was killed during the exchange of fire, he said.

The operation is still on, the spokesman said.

Suspected militants hurl grenade; two injured in J&K | Zee News

Srinagar: At least two civilians were injured on Saturday in a grenade attack by suspected militants on a security force vehicle at Anantnag town in south Kashmir, police said.

The assailants hurled a grenade towards a security force vehicle at Anantnag town but missed the intended target, a police official said.

He said the grenade landed and exploded on the roadside, injuring at least two civilians.

The injured persons have been rushed to the local district hospital for treatment, he added.

Live Mortar Shell Found in Samba, Diffused -The New Indian Express

JAMMU: A live mortar shell was found in a village along the International Border (IB) in Samba district of Jammu and Kashmir that was later diffused by the Border Security Force (BSF).

One 82 mm live mortar shell was found by Mohinder Kumar lying in his fields in the Challarian village in Samba district yesterday, after which he informed the nearby BSF post about the bomb, a police spokesman said. He said the BSF reached the spot and later diffused the bomb safely.

"It seems that the mortar shell had reached the fields after being fired from the Pakistani side, during the last week's ceasefire violation," he said.

2 Armymen killed in firing by Pakistan in north Kashmir | Deccan Chronicle

Srinagar: Two army jawans were killed on Monday as Pakistani troops pounded Indian positions with mortars and machine guns in Gurez sector in Kashmir along the Line of Control (LoC) in yet another ceasefire violation.

"The Pakistani troops violated the ceasefire by opening firing in Gurez sector at 12.30 pm which lasted till 2.00 pm," an army spokesman said here.

He said two jawans were killed in the firing by Pakistani troops, who used automatic rifles, machine guns and mortars to target the Indian posts.

"Our troops responded to the unprovoked aggression in equal measure," he added.

The ceasefire violation comes five days ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's scheduled to visit to Jammu and Kashmir on November 7.

14 CRPF troopers injured in Srinagar grenade attack | Zee News

Srinagar: At least 14 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) troopers were injured in the blast after separatist guerrillas hurled a grenade at them here on Thursday evening, police said.


The attack came barely two days before Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to arrive here to address a rally.

"Seven more injured CRPF troopers have been admitted to hospital with splinter injuries. Seven troopers were earlier admitted to hospital after militants lobed a grenade at a picket of the CRPF outside the Ikhwan Hotel in Khanyar area here," a senior police officer told IANS.

"The area has been cordoned off to search for the militants".

CRPF officials told reporters that it was "a low intensity explosion".

Thursday's grenade attack occurred amid despite heightened security in the city ahead of the Modi's public rally here on November 7.

Scores of police and CRPF personnel have been deployed in the city to prevent any disruption of peace ahead of the prime minister's visit.

BSF, Pakistan Rangers hold meeting - The Hindu

Border Security Force (BSF) and Pakistan Rangers held a meeting on the international border in Samba district of Jammu region to maintain ceasefire, an official said on Monday.

“A casual contact meeting was held on Sunday at the Octroi Post Outpost in R.S. Pura sector on the international border between the field commanders of BSF and Pakistan Rangers,” a senior BSF officer told IANS in Jammu.

“Issues related to maintenance of ceasefire by the two sides were discussed by our five-member team with a four-member team of Pakistan rangers. Both sides are committed to uphold ceasefire on the border,” the officer added.

It must be recalled that both sides held a flag meeting on the international border in the same sector on November 3. Farmers on both sides are presently busy harvesting the Kharif crop and the Rabi sowing season is about to start.

Army Colonel Martyred Leading Operation Against Terrorists Colonel Santosh Mahadik attained martyrdom while leading his troops in an fierce encounter with a group of three terrorists in Manigah Forest Area of Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir today.

Colonel Mahadik, the Commanding Officer of 41 Rashtriya Rifles made the supreme sacrifice in the highest traditions of the Indian Army. The Colonel was a true soldier and had conducted many successful counter terrorist operations. Originally from the Special Forces, the officer was earlier awarded Sena Medal for exhibiting gallantry and leadership in counter terrorist operations.

Lt Gen DS Hooda, Army Commander, Northern Command has expressed deep condolences on the loss of this brave Commanding Officer. He said , “we owe a deep debt of gratitude to officers like Santosh who lead from the front and are willing to pay the ultimate price in the fight against terrorism.”

Colonel Mahadik leaves behind his wife and two children aged eleven and five years. The Army is committed to providing all support to the family in this hour of grief.
