Pakistan Turns Against the West

All the idealism , self pride is ok but life demands much more than that ..empty purse and stomach teaches hundred lessons ..
When govt makes policy of a country it has many things to consider ..most importantly poor people of the country ..
Recent policies due to public pressure are not matured one ..pakistan was an ally in this war on terror ..however difficult they maintained it for almost a decade ..
They had two goals one to come out of this war without much damage and second one to take the advantage of western allies for whome they fought ..
They failed in first one but are on their way to achieve second one ..some stupid decisions at last minute, second one is also out of reach ..
All these idealistic lectures will jump through window when reality knocks the door

BUT THE PROBLEM IS NO ONE IN PAKISTAN KNOWS WHAT ITS(PAKISTAN'S) INTERESTS ARE!!!!!!!!! THEY ONLY HAVE THEIR OWN AHEAD OF THE COUNTRY'S....

that is a bit unfair, the people you are talking about are traitors, in fact on the contrary a majority of our Pakistani people are anti American for the reasons stated above and therefore do not what is Pakistan's interest

pakistan doesn't turn against the west and never will. it has no stake in the good or bad of how the west turns out.pakistan just wants to be left alone and in peace when anglo-americans invaded the neighborhood and disrupts peace everywhere. it is the impossible demands the US asks of pakistan and the anglo-americans' frustration that pakistan cannot possibly comply with demands that are detrimental to its long term interests that drove the anglo-americans mad

Pakistan hasn't turned against the west - it has been pushed into a corner. I would suggest the USA take their aid and potential aid and keep it. Pakistan indeed want to be left alone. In the 90s when aid was stopped Pakistan showed growth and development. They pulled their fingers out and showed what can be possible. Their aid isn't really aid - its bribing and "sweeteners" for our corrupted leaders. In fact 90% of the aid goes into their pockets and is never seen by the Pakistani people for what its intended.
Pakistan have sacrificed so so much against the WOT - which now the west don't even acknowledge. Time to leave us alone and let us be.

We too are talking about the spirit of the law. The CIA is conducting illegal activities within Pakistan which has resulted in the murder of two youngsters by the CIA acting Station Chief, Raymond Davis.

Moreover all the Drone attacks have been declared illegal by Amnesty International - which are also conducted by the CIA. By the admission of white house aides, Obama may not have killed a single militant by the drone attacks since they have been declaring all adult males killed in the drone attacks as militants.

In this scenario, the CIA becomes a bigger villain for Pakistan than anything related to Pakistan. If he was helping them illegally pluck flowers from a garden, he still deserves a treason sentencing since its after all not a verdict for him plucking flowers but for aiding a horrible organization such as the CIA.

Also no one is negotiating American aid, they are asking to use our soil for transport of goods to their military bases. We have given them a price which is 50% of what they are paying while going through the north. Moreover the American taxpayer is not really outraged, but there is an attempt to make them outraged by concealing relevant facts and trickling information whenever convenient and holding whenever suitable.

Which holds more true that the US has turned against Pakistan rather than Pakistan having any anti-western goals, if anything we are becoming more and more westernized.

I couldn't agree with you more. If any foreign country was conducting raids in my country, I would be pretty pi$$ed about it. And yes, letting off Raymond Davis - an American citizen for killing Pakistani citizens must have been deeply insulting.

Clearly your sovereignty has been compromised - but it is the job of your Government and your armed forces from stopping these drone attacks and laying down rules of engagement. What exactly is stopping you from showing the Americans, the CIA or whichever agency it is the middle finger and telling them to get lost. I think it is nothing but dependence on American aid. If there is something I missed here - please enlighten me.

WHO KNOWS IF THEY ARE EXACTLY ILLEGAL OR APPROVED BY YOUR GOVT / MILITARY BUT ARE JUST HIDING THE FACT JUST TO PREVENT PUBLIC BACK LASH
Exactly!Who knows whether it's legal or ILLEGAL!

Fine. Let's say the Pakistani courts passed the right judgement and sentenced the person for collaborating with another intelligence agency. But, what about the people who supposedly harboured OBM? That is not a crime against the state? When all the top officials have cried out hoarse that OBM was not there, finally he was found. What about the case and trial of people who were responsible for keeping him there? Or just dust that under the carpet?
:disagree: :disagree: :disagree:

I didn't know you lived in Pakistan!Whenever you create an atmosphere of political and economical chaos in a country the inhabitants will subsequently become selfish. But after the people are enmeshed in a state of moral chaos, will they realize that the interests of their country runs along side their own. When they decide to indulge in the policies of the state,a DEMOCRATIC government will be forced to scumb to the people's demand and will be forced to act accordingly.

Our government is filled with malnourished people who apparently live under the poverty-line. This is the reason they want American funds; to fulfill their basic necessities of life.
;)

IMO the Armed Forces aren't willing to confront the US militarily. This would be suicide and they know it. But they may be pressurizing the government to show some backbone and demand an apology for the attack on Pakistani troops.
But the retarded commission in charge of determining Pak-US relations messed the whole thing by talking about fees and other concesssions that weakened our stance and a justifiable demand.

For a small country, Pakistan can put a lot of pressure on the U.S.

U.S. is thinking twice before messing with Pakistan.. :)

The complicated affair between Washington and Islamabad was never about moral right or wrong, much rather about perceived costs and benefits. How did Pakistan benefit from convicting Dr.Afridi; Does it restore the broken pride in the aftermath of the OBL raid? Did it prevent escalation of animosity with the United States? Would it have hurt to stall legal proceedings till the bilateral ties improved? The jury(no pun intended) is still out on those. What you undeniably can see is Pakistan paying for the costs incurred .I hope Pakistan finds the current situation worth convicting one person.

My first post about the Shakil Afridi affair.
Unlike most Pakistanis here, I agree with you!
While, as Asim Aquil put it best, no country can tolerate a spy within, I think it was in Pakistan's best interests to let the trial 'stall'. Pakistan has made it only difficult for the remaining-few pro-Pakistani people like Senator J. Kerry to help Pakistan.

I think, in general, since the Raymond Davis episode, Pakistani foreign policy is of a measured resistance. Even when the OBL raid happened--the raid itself got rid of Pakistan's own enemy but the way American officials, especially the old idiot Panetta, decided to humiliate Pakistan was a grave provocation. But, alas, by condemning Dr. Shakil Afridi so fast, Pakistan has undone at least some of its hard-work--by losing negotiating space.

Yes, I know, $$ is not everything. Yes, I know, 'image', is not everything. But in a country of notoriously long judicial trials, the swiftness of the Dr. Afridi trial was simply asking for more condemnation.

Again, I repeat, Pakistan could not, should not have allowed a spy to go unpunished. If you do that next there could be others. Many others. Some for some 'good cause' and some for...

But 'stalling' was the best course of action.

Anyway, the damage is done. The 'West' has an agenda to pressurize Pakistan. And Pakistan has given it one more tool to beat Pakistan with.

If the americans ask Pakistan to release of Shakil Afridi then Pakistan should ask the americans to release Jonathan Pollard , both cases are similar and US should do what it asks others to do.

Small? Polulation wise you are in the top six. Above Russia, Japan, Gemany I might add.

how is there a comparison between some one who assisted in the identity of a known terrorist and Pollard?

VICTIM IMPACT STATEMENT

The specific instances of damage to the national security caused by Mr. Pollard's offense will be described in a classified damage session affidavit to be submitted to the Court in camera. Generally, it can be said that the breadth and scope of the classified information compromised by Mr. Pollard is among the greatest of any espionage operation uncovered by Federal authorities. Thousands of pages of Top Secret and Sensitive Compartmented Information were sold to the Israelis by Mr. Pollard.
