Pakistan, Turkey sign contract for modernization of second Agosta 90B class submarine

Did STM win these contracts on the basis of their offer (best tech for the money) or because it will be used to expand defence ties and maybe offset MILGEM costs by a little. Or was the move political; a shot at France for duplicity in their defense relationship (using Pakistan sales as the worm to lure the Indian fish).

Either way it makes sense to go with STM. If STM had the better package thats a win win for Pakistan/turkey. If it offsets sime of MILGEMs cost then it is again a win win. And ultimately, Why work with a supplier that is notoriously corrupt and underhanded in past dealings. Who has as much propensity to finish the job as they do to embargo your sub while its being upgraded in case of war/hostilities.

DCN is also supplying Scorpene submarines to India and the sensor suites on the Agosta 90B and Scorpene are almost identical. Both subs are equipped with the SUBTICS Combat Management System. It makes better sense to choose another supplier for refits.

DCN also is controversial since there was a leak of sensitive information regarding the Scorpenes.

Pakistan, Turkey entrusted submarines

At the MILGEM

Pakistan has an important place in the maritime projects carried out by the Turkish defense industry abroad.

STM, which previously signed the Project for Supply of Marine Tanker with Pakistan and has made the biggest export in one item on the basis of military ship, continues to work on the vessel successfully launched.

The submarine modernization project further strengthened the long-standing maritime business alliance between the two countries.

A goodwill agreement was signed at the 13th International Defense Industry Fair in Istanbul (IDEF 2017) before the final agreement for the MILGEM Project. Within this scope, 4 island-type corvettes to be delivered to the Pakistan Navy are planned to be produced by Karachi Shipyard with the model in the Marine Supply Tanker Project under the main contract of STM.

What is the island type corvettes? Is it a misspelling of Istanbul class (I-class) ... but then I-class is a frigate and not corvette?

I think Turkey might add its several anti Torpedo systems which is soft and hard kill systems.

We often ask the same question when France sells its advanced weapons to India. The answer we get is that it is purely a commercial decision. We accept the answer.

In response to your query, this deal with Turkey is purely commercial. I hope France can accept it. No further comment.
