Pakistan to participate in SAARC satellite project meeting: ISRO

.
The fear is that in the case of major tensions between the two, India would make the sat network unavailable for Pakistan. Another fear is that India may end up using it to spy on Pakistani targets.
Lol, so unavailability become an important issue?

And how India eavesdrop on Pak communication, when all members check the payload in I-1k or I-2k BUS before launch. This is not military sat, how they spy on Pak, lol.

BTW, if you check the current constellation of Indian sat, then you find India already spying on Pak, they dont need cheap tricks.

Yes, it does. If Pakistan were to use this, and it becomes a main stay, it could have a big affect on Pakistan, if it were to go offline.

The problem is that we don't know if India is telling the entire truth about the sat. How do we know that India hasn't modified the sat for military purposes?

The difference here is that Pakistan would be giving express permission to India, where as with other sats, Pakistan has a way of hiding itself from them.

Maximum, it send the 12 Ku-band transponders. Not more than that, how you start to depend on a single sat?

Yes, this is jus general hogwash that a civilian sat is so easy to convert into military. When sat itself have no access to Pakistan Armed Forces communication. How they eavesdrop, and for eavesdropping India already launched many payloads including the latest one will be

Why India take such a risk with SAARC sat?

Lol, how it would be express permission? What are you threatened with? That India manipulate the broadcasting of Pakistani media channels in Pak?

We dont trust india.... no reason to see it in any other way :enjoy:

. . .
why is Modi & co involving Pakistan with ISRO even from a distance? Pakistan has nothing to contribute by way of technology; The three current networks already have full geo-map of Pakistan with only minor gaps. why? to just scare Pakistan?

Why is India pushing Pakistan to get involved in this project..? There are other countries in SAARC who are obviously interested. ISRO should make the satellite with their help. If Islamabad wants not to be a part, we should respect their opinion.

Pakistan's fear is that it could be used against them, and the fear is quite legitimate. How many Indians would approve if it was Pakistan leading the SAARC sat project?
1. Pakistan does not have the technological or technical ability to lead the sat project.

2. Pakistan's fears are illegitimate as what space assets can be used against Pakistan are being used against Pakistan. India now has one of the worlds largest satellite networks in orbit - both remote sensing and communication.

We don't need an additional communications satellite against Pakistan, especially one that is going to be used by the rest of South Asia.

The only way it can be used against Pakistan is if Pakistan military starts using SAARC sat for its comm needs! Otherwise Pakistan can simply choose not to use it for its security reasons.

1. It was an example, a hypothetical situation. You merely side stepped my point.

2. According to you.

Even civilian sats can be used offensively. It doesn't need to have a military side to be a threat. The fear of India cutting of access anytime it wants, that is the main concern, and it's a very legitimate concern, as India would have full control over the SAARC network. There are simply no safeguards in place to stop India from abusing it's access.

It's not about dependence, I don't think you quite grasped what I've said.

The fear is there, even if it isn't yet realized fully. An issue arises If India ever decides to expand on the project, or shut it down, it would have consequences for the region.

The solution to point 2 is simple, as I mentioned.
Pakistan can simply choose not to use the SAARC satellite. Therefore cutting off access is a point that does not arise.

I personally am in favour of Pakistan not joining the project. The Prime Minister in his bluster announced the SAARC satellite project, whereas he should have announced a BIMSTEC/BBIN satellite project. Either ways, whats done is done.

That's up to the leadership to decide. I'm sure there is communication between India and Pakistan about this. India would no doubt love to have Pakistan on board, as it would increase their geopolitical standing, so India may very well give certain assurances to Pakistan.

If it's a science and technology project meant for development of humanity, India will be thrilled. If Pakistan takes a lead on such a initiative, maybe that will open up bilateral understanding between the countries.
