Pakistan to lease Nuclear sub from China?

The han class sub is just a piece of junk its a first generation sub and the submarine is also inhibited by the fact that it cannot launch missiles while submerged. This is a huge tactical drawback and makes a missile launch suicidal against most enemies

If it is true, then proves that China is trying to upset the balance....in the region....

And your source is................?

Second strike capability effective when you have credible technology in hand, only to show that you also have Nuclear submarine when we know that it will not ideal or even sufficient for us, i don't think Pakistan must go for this deal.

Sir, before you buy an SSN / SSBN, wouldn't it be better to lease one, and iron out your SOP as well as learn the intricacies of operating one?

After all wouldn't you take a car on a test drive before you buy it?

When India leases a nuke sub, thats fine, but when Pakistan does it, it's upsetting the balance in the region?

Leasing a nuke sub makes sense.. when a country plans to build one for itself and regularly operate it ..otherwise it just an experience that goes to waste ..because you can not buy a nuke sub and to continue operating nuke subs on lease is an expensive affair.

^^ Where will Pakistan get a SLBM from?

The source is mentioned in the OP - PShamim, who is a highly respected member on this forum and pakdef.

A lot of what he has revealed over the past years has been extremely accurate. I will leave it up to you to contact him to determine why he is credible.

I would not have moved that post over and created a new thread if the source was not credible.

That said, even PS has indicated that the acquisition of a nuclear powered submarine is a 'possibility', not a certainty. Penguin has made some good arguments as to why it would not be a good acquisition for the PN.

What is clear now is that negotiations over a potential nuclear sub acquisition have being going on for some time. The specifics of what the PN might be looking for in such an acquisition - systems, specifications, upgrades - may indeed prove to be a roadblock, but we will have to wait and see.

I'll second that, PShamim sahab is an ex-PAF officer and his reports are usually very solid, if not always!

If selling it is illegal, then sure as hell..helping another country develop one is too.

So why US sold the D5 missile to UK?

Pakistan don't just want to lease or to buy the SSBN, but to master this technology.

As the best friendly nation of Pakistan, it is our duty to help them to fulfill their dream. :china::pakistan:

I have heard PN was interested in Xia class SSN may be it was cost effective?????????

Xia would be a better system and the boat would be new(er), compared to Han. But .... I suspect any Xia produced would immediately be taken up by PLAN, replacing Han's and then expanding the SSN fleet.

Because both UK and US are members of MTCR ..whereas while China is not formally a member of MTCR, it has agreed to abide by its rules and pledged not to engage in proliferation of Ballistic missiles.

No country can buy a Nuke sub, but only lease it(as there was loop hole in the Hague rules as well as NPT) ..and if it wants to master this tech..it will have do it on its own as all other countries have ..because international protocol forbid China from it.
