Pakistan to face economic sanctions if doesn't open NATO routes

The Haqqani network is backed or protected by Pakistan.. Officials: No action against Haqqani network by Pakistan military - CNN

No. All they are saying is "show us a lot more green!" before we move against them.

She will say this when she is in India, no surprise there.

The US has slowly started to release prisoners from it's prisoners through a deal with the Taliban. Double crossing no?

Yes, but she canceled her stopover to Pakistan. She is Secretary of State, and it only shows that negotiations to resolve issues are not going well. Pakistan should pay heed.

Sirs, with all due respect. Is this not hypocrisy ? You, and the others in this thread, are sitting comfortably in western countries egging your home land on to adopt a policy that will serve no purpose than end up being the proverbial bullet to the head.

The men and women of your country and not you will have to face the sanctions. From what i understand, the outcome of crippling economic sanctions on ailing and corrupt economy is never a pretty picture.

Please try and think before you hand out advice.

You my dear have hit the nail on the head.

Unfortunately it won't work. Indians (and Chinese and even Iranians) living in the West try to make things easy between their India-US, (similarly China-US, and Iran-US). This makes life easy for Indian expats (similarly Chinese and Iranian expats)

Many Paks living in the West think they are safe in the comfy apartments of Toronto (or other major cities) while they all push Pakistan into the sanctions land.

These Paks must realize that if something goes really really bad, Americans, Canadians, and UK governments can easily make a new law and kick out all Pakistani origin people or worst throw them in camps.

Western ideas like freedom of speech, citizenship etc. are only meant for lawful and patriotic residents. For those who harbor and act on anti-national urges do not get these goodies.

So if nothing else, Pakistanis living in the West should for their own (and their own kids') long term interest, must actively support pro-West Pakistani policies. Because if they don't, Pakistan will be in trouble for sure, but sooner or later, Pakistani expats too will suffer (citizens or not it doesn't really matter).

Sure some on this board will pooh pooh this and talk about Western hypocrisy and what not. But that's not going to help all those expats being kicked out or being thrown in to WW2 style camps setup for Japanese.

Peace to all.

Hope Pakistan remains pro-West.

why would Pakistan face sanctions?.....there are other neighbours of Afghanistan too....turkey faced nothing when it dident allowed natio a route after 9/11.....that would have been cheaper than Pakistani route...but still no one said nothing to them...

Oh Bhole Baadshaho,

Iran is already under sanctions and even under threat of war. You want Pakistan to be in the same situation?

Pakistan on the other hand is getting $2.5 billion direct funding and $3-5 billions indirect support (loans etc.).

Turkey is active member of NATO. And US never needed full access through Turkey for GWs. That whole thing was just to confuse Sad-Damn that Northern attack is also coming. But southern attack was the main goal all along.

As the events proved that American troops had no trouble kicking Saddam.

Please do not emulate Baghdad Bob. Still time to change your ways.

Peace.

Turkey - NATO member state who enjoys exponentially more credibility with the US and the rest of the Western World then Pakistan ever did !

There can't be unilateral sanctions for not allowing the land route for a third country. Bilateral sanctions.. yes! but not global sanctions.
The fact of the matter is.. leaders in Pak think they can fool their public by giving **** & bull story. Basically this is just the gorund work initiated for things we can expect in the future...

.
Just don't be too sure of that. Things can get a lot worse for Pakistan, and it would be best not to allow that to happen.

But why in the past you have argued that it's no big deal and Americans have other options. So why should Americans get so upset please do tell

.
I don't think so. Direct support for those groups dried up a long time ago.
Ok, but what about the indirect support created by extremists who have nothing more to do than fuel the hatred against any pro-peace initiative.

.
Why what's wrong with going from Iran?

excellent suggestion lol

Of course if Pakistan can meet its loan repayment commitments, or default, your approach would work out just fine too.

default didn't affect South Americans in that big a way imo. The rich or Zardari types would suffer more than joe bloggs

Don't be too surprised if China participates in sanctions, should it come to that, which I hope it does not.

What now you are clutching at straws. China will assist with American vision for Afghanistan with which they do not agree with. Yea rite sounds like warped American logic

.
It would be very logical and reasonable.

NATO is there in Afghanistan under the aegis of the UN.

Pakistan's closing of supply routes means hindering the efforts of a UN sanctioned effort.

Besides, it also means blocking of routes to a landlocked country. That's against international law.

.
Exactly, so if you want peace and harmony there is something which needs to be done. NATO supplies are for defeating the Aghani Taliban and other terrorists, which there are many, which have destroyed exactly what you seek..

No supply routes are required for an American view for our neighbourhood which asides India and the puppet regime in Kabul no one else in the neighbourhood buys
