India seeks to acquire technology and not just import outright so that it can manufacture all these items indigenously in the future instead of relying on imports forever. India can make most parts of a ship except MFSTAR AESA radar and diesel/turbine engine. India is almost on the edge of making its own AESA radar and engine too is being developed. So, unlike Pakistan, India will be able to be self sufficient in the future and stop imports whereas Pakistan will have to keep importing forever.
Firstly, you’re just outright wrong, india is the largest arms importer in the world, not a large indigenous manufacturer or exporter. ToT works exactly the same for India as it does for Pakistan. You don’t get any special treatment.
In fact, let’s take an example, the T90S tank, India doesn’t even have Full ToT for that despite it being the main tank of the Indian army. It’s reliant on Russia to provide even basic parts for it like the tracks and the barrels. So where is your full ToT and no import reliance? India couldn’t even get permission from Russia to upgrade those tanks on its own, which is why they’re getting outdated, unlike the Al-Khalid which has been upgraded with time because it’s a Pakistani tank.
In fact the RFI issued for the next Indian army tank says it’s gonna be a foreign tank. I thought India was self reliant and could make it’s own?
India tries to compare its industry with China, China built a super-carrier from scratch in 2 years. Where is that Indian carrier? 10 years on and it’s still not in service. Same story for the Tejas.
also Indigenous ≠ good as is shown by Indian tanks, planes, drones, helicopters, rifles…
The Tejas is less Made in India (50.5%) than the thunder is made in Pakistan last I checked, excluding design…
The Arjun is also less made in India than the Al-Khalid is made in Pakistan (over 80% at this point). And both the Indian projects predate the Pakistani ones by over 20 years and still aren’t at their full completion. Let’s take another example. Both India and Pakistan modernized their old tanks, Pakistan made the Al-Zarrar and india the Ajeya MK2. The Indian modernization uses entirely polish and Czech tech. Thermals, FCS, GCS etc. I thought india was self reliant?
Pakistan is also working on radars but unlike the Indians our industry tends not to brag about a project 30 years before it’s completion, indians have this habit of comparing current Pakistani stuff to their upcoming stuff, like Tejas MK-1A and Arjun MK-1A, years before they even service, and then they leave it hanging.
We only show it when it’s complete and it works, tell me when was the last time an Indian tank or jet was exported to another country? There are more Al-Khalids and JFs in foreign service than their are Tejas and arjuns in Indian service. (I know you will go looking for every excuse and bring up how they are joint projects, well let me tell you that the biggest defense producers only ever do joint projects because it gives a better outcome…F35, EF typhoon, FCAS…list goes on. Meanwhile india can’t even make a simple aircraft despite this much foreign help.)
Lastly, the difference between the Indian and Pakistani defense industries, though obviously present and strongly in India’s favor at the moment, is very minuscule compared to what it should be given India’s size and resources, that is not something to be proud of but something to worry about, but proud people like you keep it from getting better and hence it’s stuck, a blessing for Pakistan. India could be such a massive arms exporter and producer but it’s stuck in its cycle of corruption, pride and incompetency.
Give it 20 years, this little gap won’t exist, given the current trends, so please, come back when India makes something worthwhile, until then stop using every opportunity you can to be a nuisance.
