does anyone other PAF even operate mirage iii and mirage-5 anymore ?

Prepare for next air battle.... 27/2 has given lots of lessons to IAF...it doesn't mean that they will repeat same mistakes again. Next air situation will be complex that will narrow down PAF capabilities. We see downing two birds of enemy caused debacle of the entire military morale. So PAF must prepare and keep pace with real situation.

Yes latest Chinese stuff is better than obsolete stuff from ANYWHERE. The fact is, Mirage 2000-5/9s are not obsolete. And countries maintain diversity of suppliers ... different blocks of JF-17s does not count as diversity.
More important than diversity of suppliers is the diversity of fire power, the diversity of radars, diversity of weapon systems, diversity of counter measures, diversity of frequencies, diversity of guidance systems. Merely the difference between pulse doppler and AESA is so much that all previous pulse dopplers are at a marked disadvantage once encountering AESA equipped enemies.
And by the way since when is france on the list of reliable partners as compared to China ?

Dude, look at the thread title again. These are Emirati (UAE) mirages not 'Qatari'. UAE has more than 65 of these birds. Together with Qatar's 12 or 18 mirages, you have a a fleet of 80 or above Mirage-2000s.

Now I read some ill-informed comments above that we need more JF-17s, more F-16s, these are vintage aircraft, and other nonsense.

For God's sake fellows, the role of Mirage-2000s is very different to a multi-role JF-17 or F-16. Mirages are deep strike, high acceleration jets, and they serve a very different purpose and are a must.

expected total cost if we go for all of these??

PAF seems to be considering a delta winged bomb truck, so either Mirage 2000 or J-10C. Unless being received for a bargain, the J-10C is the sane choice.

As far as training is concerned PAF personnel have been maintaining and flying them for a while so they do have the expertise, and but only makes sense if it could perform the necessary overhauls in house.

Otherwise J-10C is a no brainer.

There is talk that lately-appointed Chief of General Staff of the Pakistani Army General Qamar Javed Bajwa intends to reactivate contacts with the UAE to buy the Emirati Mirage 2000-9 fighter jets in favor of Pakistan Air Force (PAF). The following 348-word report sheds more light on the subject and tells what about the Emirati reaction. [Partly reproduced in TR Weekly Issue No 24/03 – Jan. 20, 2017]

India will never let us buy them. Also UAE is modi's bitch.

Seems like old news. Bajwa isn't newly appointed

not in favor unless the price really is a bargain. these jets are vintage and the upgrade potential isnt the same as what we can do on the falcons

I don't agree. At the moment PAF relies on Mirage III/V for bombing missions. They were used on 27th Feb by PAF to bomb Indian Military installations, or the areas near them.

Buying Mirage 2000 would be vast improvements from Mirage III/V despite their ROSE upgrades.
It would enhance PAF's bombing capacities/capabilities.

No other aircraft in Pakistani stock at the moment can increase the capabilities for bombing run better than mirage 2000 aircraft. Unless Pakistan wants and able to spend big to acquire very modern bomber jets.

Considering cash is an issue at the moment for PAF, buying mirage 2000 on the cheap makes lots of sense.

If they need a bomb truck then they better go for a twin engine like j16. Upgrading M2Ks will be nightmare. France is charging India 30 million $ per aircraft for upgradation. Will they give you MICA and METEORs ? what will be the price of these systems ?

Mirage 2000 is a great plane. If Pakistan buys it and then upgrades it with latest equipments, I think it will turn out to be a great plane like India's Mirage 2000 UPG. Pakistan should go ahead with it.

Indian mirages are 37 years old, why should we invest in obsolete stuff ?

J-16 isn't a bad option but it is also a huge aircraft with a large RCS also not made available for export yet, would rather prefer if wait for J-31. Pretty evident from recent engagement with India that larger aircraft will be detected and engaged first with a smaller aircraft with a good radar (SU-30s were engaged but they couldn't engage back). J-10C is similar if not exceeds PAFs F-16s. The F-16 is PAFs ideal strike aircraft but it can't put SOW weapons of its own choice on it. Which is why PAF had to invest in keeping it's old mirages still flying.

The ROSE-2/3 mirages are invaluable because of their ability to carry RAAD and H series weapons. Proved their worth on surprise day.

It is not that I am recommending the same. It is the thread title that Pakistan is buying it. You should write this in response to OP.

Advantage :
-These Mirage 2000s are equal to our BLK 52s in capability thus great replacement for old Mirages.
-Almost new
-These Mirage 2000s use same subsystems used by rafales thus would be great a addition.
-PAF pilots already know this machine as they have flown this aircraft multiple times during exercises with gulf countries.

Disadvantage:
-Very expensive even though second hand.
-New setup needed for maintenance and overhaul as If I am not wrong Mirage 2000s are quite different from Mirage 5 and 3s.
-Instead of buying this expensive machine why not making few extra units of BLK III both have almost similar price.

In war you cant use the same trick twice. PAF must be knowing this, they have to constantly devise new tactics, technology to remain one step ahead of the enemy. They have won first round, for next round they need something even newer. Stagnation is death in air war.
