Not really. Considering that NAZI Germany within 6 years became a world power from being a bankrupt nation in 1933 with the largest number of unemployed to a economic powerhouse and nationwide labor shortage by 1938 as well as the worlds most technologically advanced nation , you can't underestimate the potential of a nation. If only Pakistan could have a leader like Adolf Hitler we'd become number one in research within 2 years.

Hopefully Pakistan continues on this path (InshaAllah) and the brain power is used in house rather than outsourced.

What it needs is national socialism instead, and that is also found in Islam, only if it can be applied wisely, Pakistan or any other Muslim nation can leapfrog the science & technology realm.
When all of them will get together (When they are all ready!), just remember the power of -e power x- in mathematics.

I agree with Sage. Pakistan below 6th spot, in anything, is disappointing.

As for Iran not passing Germany, you must conclude that Iran has the same resources and potentinal as Germany has right now because of Iran's massive resources wealth which goes and affects the average Iranian greatly, leading to a better live, thus better education and results.

Iran has the potential to become the 3rd largest, if not the 4th.

well among thirty is not a big deal for atleast Pakistan......but the need of the time is a leader we all south asian countries need a leader thts it.....some times i feel tht western countries would be laughing when they see the current situation of south asia...

our peoples deserves soo much better life which our ancestors dream off but alas the current situation is not 1% of that.......

as for Pakistan we just need a good leader for atleast 2 decades & we can change the whole world, i guess western countries know tht, thts why we dont hav any leader....wht a game.

Iranians grew from merely 4000 research papers to 25000 papers quickly. They were able to do this by expanding present unis. Going from here to 200000 papers is not the same thing. They have to build 5x times more unis, as they have now and make them world standard in 5 yrs. Which idiot here thinks that possible?? As a current engineering student in waterloo uni, i can tell u world class unis and research is not done over night.

irans production will not be more than 60000 papers. In last 6 yrs Iran has added 3500 papers/ year, to reach 150000-200000 to be 4th, they have to add over 15000-20000 papers every year. This is not going to happen.

In 2012 iran's production has barely increased to over 32000. addition of only 4000 papers. They are not on track to achieve the target. got it guys

Not to forget the biased ness of western journals. Many of the reviewers are too skeptical about South Asians.

To publish a paper is not every one's cup of tea, especially in a peer reviewed International Journal.

the most important thing is that we should make our own knowledge based economy & stop following western created standards instead should make our own standards remember we have more than 60 % of population & we also forget tht the majority always rule If they are with each others....

For that we have to launch our own journals, make them world class and publish in them. West accept those papers which are useful for them.

I agree big population means big economy, papers, research, military etc etc. But with time and investment.

Currently china contributes 17% of worlds graduates, usa second with 13% and india 3rd with 12%. India will overtake usa by 2014. I dont understand how iran will reach 3rd or 4th with only 2% of worlds graduates.

I am sure one day asia will rule the world. Pakistan will one day challenge west for dominance in science and economy. But every country has its potential and u cant exceed that, no matter how hard u try.

loll India is doing that. What is pakistan waiting for. India in 2-3 yrs is expected to be 3rd largest investor in r&d and science. it is already 6th. Moreover R&d cost in india is cheaper than west. So we can do more with less money. Ibm right now has more employers in india than they are in usa. its funny right. Maybe 10 yrs from now, Ibm will belong to India.

i dont agree with you if that was the thinking of small europe than they coulnt rule the whole world even with fighting each others in longest wars of time......and even when Asia was ruling the world but just see how things hav changes & those Europeans who beg Asia for resources are again ruling the world we should change our mind set that we cannt do any thing.
