Pakistan - the place to be at

Name one country in the world that doesn't have the potential to be great.

From North Korea to Somalia. All countries have great potential.

Just like every child in a class has the potential to be first. It's how the child utilizes his or her potential that matters.

I didn't want to spoil your fun but this is the harsh fact of life.

Some guys do well, some don't do so well but they all have the potential.

I loled at the person who thanked you lol

Good for you. Laughing is good for health. I'm glad I played a part in your good health.

How are any of the developments, in countries like Libya, Iraq, Somalia etc promising?

I don't follow these countries in particular but scour the net and I'm sure you'll find one or more positive event happening on a daily basis.

How much do you get payed to troll and ruin every single thread?

Come on, don't you got anything better to do?

As long as "good connections" trump "merit", that huge potential will not be realized.

By the way, I did not know anyone in Sindh when I first got here, but made "good connections" over time through good networking. Everyone does this throughout the world, & there is nothing wrong with that. That is what I meant by "good connections", I was not talking about merit or no merit/sifaarish.

Someone high up in an official capacity once said to me years ago:

"Waapis wohi aata hey jiss kay wahaan paaon nahi jamtay."

Actually, my "paaon" were more "jamme hue" in the US than anywhere else, considering that I almost spent a decade there, & close to half my life. But I do not want to make this thread about me, or my personal life; & I would ask others to refrain speaking on that too. Thanks.

Well that high up official is not the supreme authority. Is he........

There are many things in this world other than money. Its just how someone thinks.

Most of the people that don't want to go back, & do whatever it takes to stay back in the West are the ones that are disillusioned with Pakistan, & who haven't enjoyed a "decent" standard of living. Anyways, I am seeing more & more people coming back to Pakistan who have an option of staying back, due to many reasons. It is not good to paint everyone with the same brush.

Human development: Pakistan among most improved in UN report

Pakistan has been ranked 10th in terms of human development improvement by the United Nations Development Programme’s 20th Human Development Report 2010.
Those among the 135 countries that improved most in Human Development Index (HDI) over the past 30 years were led by Oman, which invested energy earnings over the decades in education and public health. The other nine “Top Movers” were China, Nepal, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, Laos, Tunisia, South Korea, Algeria and Morocco. Remarkably, China was the only country that made the “Top 10” list solely due to income performance. The main drivers of HDI achievement were in health and education.
The UNDP report stated that between 1980 and 2010, the HDI value increased by 58 per cent (average annual increase of about 1.5 per cent) in Pakistan.
“With such an increase, Pakistan is ranked 10th in terms of HDI improvement, which measures progress in comparison to the average progress of countries with a similar initial HDI level,” said the report.
Pakistan’s life expectancy at birth increased by more than nine years while mean years of schooling increased by about nine years and expected years of schooling increased by almost 4 years. Pakistan’s Gross National Income (GNI) per capita increased by 92 per cent during the same period. In 1980, Pakistan, India and Bangladesh had similar HDI values. However, between 1980 and 2010, the three countries experienced different degrees of progress toward increasing their HDIs, the report stated.
The report also introduced the Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI), which identifies multiple deprivations in education, health and standard of living. The average percentage of deprivation experienced by people in multidimensional poverty was 54 per cent. The MPI, which is the share of the population that is multi-dimensionally poor, adjusted by the intensity of the deprivations, was 0.275 for Pakistan, whereas, India and Bangladesh, had MPIs of 0.296 and 0.291, respectively.
