Peshawar Zalmi defeated Multan Sultans by six wickets in the fifth match of the HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2021 at the National Stadium Karachi.

After putting 193-4 on the board, thanks to James Vince's 84 and Mohammad Rizwan's 41, the Sultans must have felt confident that they had enough on an NSK wicket that had been favouring bowlers.

However, Zalmi pulled off the run chase comfortably with a complete over to spare, thanks to contributions from everywhere.

Openers Kamran Akmal (37) and Imam-ul-Haq (48) provided a solid foundation, upon which Tom Kohler-Cadmore (53) capitalised and, when in the end, some late hitting was needed, the young Haider Ali, chipped in with an unbeaten 24 off 8 to get his side over the line.

On Wednesday, Islamabad United beat Karachi Kings by five wickets in the sixth fixture of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) at Karachi's National Stadium.
Despite putting up a huge 197-run score on the board, Islamabad were struggling at 13-2 and the Kings were firm favourites to keep their winning streak going.
However, then came the most expensive over of PSL history, bowled by Aamer Yamin, whose seven-ball third over was bled for 29 runs by Alex Hales (46).
That over gave a massive boost to the Islamabad run-rate and set the tone for the rest of the innings. It still needed some clutch cameos from the middle order, especially Hussain Talat (42) and Iftikhar Ahmed (), to seal the win.
Earlier, Sharjeel Khan and Babar Azam’s 176-run stand for the opening wicket saw Karachi finish with 196-3. Sharjeel, in particular, was in devastating form.

After downward trend in virus infections, the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) has allowed 50 percent of crowds to attend the remaining Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2021 matches scheduled to be played in Karachi and Lahore.

The NCOC had earlier allowed 20 percent crowds to attend PSL 6 matches.

As per decision, around 17,000 ticketed spectators would be allowed access inside the National Stadium per match day, while around 13,500 will be able to attend each match day at the Gaddafi Stadium.

The NCOC would monitor the situation before a decision to allow a full crowd for the three playoffs and the final in Lahore, reads the statement issued by the forum.

It must be noted that last month, PCB requested NCOC to allow a limited crowd in the upcoming edition of Pakistan’s biggest tournament.

PSL 6 kicked off at National Stadium on February 20. Karachi will host 20 matches where Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium will host 14 matches including the knockout stage and the final on March 22.

Peshawar Zalmi did not threaten to boycott match, says PCB CEO

KARACHI: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Thursday clarified that Peshawar Zalmi did not threaten to boycott their Pakistan Super League (PSL) match over the Wahab Riaz and Darren Sammy issue.

PCB CEO Wasim Khan said that Peshawar Zalmi players had met Javed Afridi who tested negative for coronavirus.

"Zalmi did not threaten to boycott the match," he said.

The statement from the PCB official came after the PSL management allowed to integrate Zlami’s skipper and head coach with the squad after they were quarantined due to COVID-19 violation before their opening match last week.

According to media reports, Zalmi had threatened not to leave the hotel on Sunday without Darren Sammy and Wahab Riaz after the two were quarantined for breaching bio-secure protocol.

The matter, the report said, would also be discussed during the Board of Governors (BoG) meeting on February 27.

Earlier on Sunday, just ahead of their opener against Lahore Qalandars Peshawar Zalmi got a relief when Sammy and Riaz were allowed after the PCB accepted the team’s appeal regarding Friday’s biosecure breach.

“Appeal on a player and official guilty of breaching bio-secure bubble on Friday, has been accepted,” the PCB had said in a press release.

“The two have been allowed to integrate with the side. The team has offered its regrets to the PCB on Friday’s breach and has thanked the PSL ETC for accepting their appeal. They have further assured protocols will be followed and respected as everyone wants the PSL to succeed,” it noted.
