What's new

Pakistan successfully tests Hatf (Vengeance) III - Ghaznavi SRBM.

. .
Strange, don't know why Pakistan keep testing same old missiles testing again again despite very few kilometers, I think, something wrong on malfuction issues so they test it to just make sure work effectively AND India move forward fast to develop new testing and experiments.

Why RED paint on the top of the missile head? It make look very silly.

What is the viability of this system with a range of 290kms for an anti armor role?
If or not it would be viable to use this platform to deliver submunitions (clusters) to destroy invading enemy tanks and other armored vehicles?

Its like putting the submunitions of the GIDS 'Hijara' Anti-armour cluster bomb into the warhead of Ghaznavi. But I don't think it is viable because using a ballistic missile for delivering only 500kg of submunitions is somewhat expensive. Besides Pakistan hasn't developed any smart submunitions so effectiveness is less too.

Ask the Indians why DRDO keeps testing Prithvi-II again and again.
The red paint is just a paint scheme for test flight units to indicate the warhead section. The operational units have uniform camouflage.

@Oscar, just spoke to a contact..... as the statement says...''Another Milestone''.....certain criteria has been increased. !!

Bro no offence but you need to be a little hush hush.

True however it is apparent now that no new missiles with extended range are developed in this moment in time. Considering how fast our missile program really was, it is sad that our most advance missile has a range of only 2500 Kms which does not even cover the whole of India.

@Oscar , @The Deterrent , @Windjammer & @Secur .... a serious question

Don't you people think repeated test of short-range missiles like Nasar & Ghaznavi is a glimpse of Pakistan's 'operational War doctrine' which gives the impression of Pakistan's 'intention to keep war theater limited' (geographically) & in fact Pakistan has 'increased its Nuclear threshold' by adopting the 'strategy to respond in the limited area (only in the war theater)' which 'may increase the strategic risk' as the other side have a clear doctrine to respond by 'any mean & any place of her choice' ...... ???

.
How do one pronounce Hatf? Which remains silent, "t" or "f"?

No PR84/2014-ISPR
Dated: April 22, 2014
Rawalpindi - April 22, 2014:

Pakistan today conducted a successful training launch of Short Range Surface to Surface Ballistic Missile Hatf III (Ghaznavi), which can carry nuclear and conventional warheads to a range of 290 kilometers. The successful launch concluded the Field Training Exercise of Strategic Missile Group of Army Strategic Forces Command.

The Training Launch was witnessed by the Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, General Rashad Mahmood, Director General Strategic Plans Division, Lieutenant General Zubair Mahmood Hayat, Commander Army Strategic Forces Command, Lieutenant General Obaid Ullah Khan, Chairman NESCOM, Mr Muhammad Irfan Burney and other senior military officials and scientists.

Addressing the troops in the exercise area, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee commended the troops on achieving technical and operational excellence in operating the state of the art weapon system. He expressed his satisfaction over the training goals achieved during the exercise and expected that the officers and men entrusted with the task of deterring aggression would continue to maintain professional excellence.

The Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, General Rashad Mahmood also congratulated all the Scientists and Engineers for the successful launch of Ghaznavi Missile, as another milestone which has further strengthened the defence potential of Pakistan besides assuring peace in the region.

The successful test has also been warmly appreciated by the President and Prime Minister of Pakistan who congratulated the participating troops, scientists and engineers on their outstanding achievement.

Pakistan should make some modifications to use these surface to Surface missiles against Surface Sea Targets.

im sorri if some one thinks im trolling but couldnt stop myself

looks like Pakistan as a nation loves its many "hamids"

few which always love to be in news like
1. zaid hamid
2. Hamid gul
3.Hamid mir

did i leave some one ;)
u left hamid dimah

What makes the Ghaznavi suited for that role over other short-ranged missiles or even the cruise missiles ? :what:

And why didn't they name a missile after me - Yaaar baaat karnaa tuuu inn seh ! :ashamed:

Warhead size, speed of delivery, ballistic profile and lower chances of interception. and so on.

And I will burn my green passport the day they name a missile Hatf-Bhatta.

You are thinking of something along the lines of ATACMS... that could be done but that depends on the ability to design and test a submunitions warhead. Just throwing a cluster bomb on a rather expensive delivery platform does you no good. Having smart submunitons on board that guarantee a 80-90% chance of hitting a target on their own and killing at least 50% of them is better.
Sadly, we have nothing like the Skeet submunition on the CBU-105 or something like the BAT.

This is one area which has always fascinated me. Remember the missile from iron man taking out an entire mountain... An operational warhead of similar sort with multiple launch platforms would be an interesting proposition.

Excerpt from the defence News Article:

Pakistan Tests Short-Range Ballistic Missile

Brian Cloughley, a former Australian defense attache to Islamabad, said the launch is a “routine test,” but an indication of continued preparation for a conventional war.

“The ongoing concentration on short-range and battlefield missile systems is interesting, because it shows that [Pakistan’s] Army continues to prepare for the land battle, and obviously believes that the Indians have not in any way modified the short, sharp-thrust policy, the so-called ‘Cold Start’ concept,” he said.

Similarly, Mansoor Ahmed, from Quaid-e-Azam University’s Department of Defence and Strategic Studies, who specializes in Pakistan’s national deterrent and delivery program, said the test was a “routine training exercise designed to test operational readiness, procedures and integration of this short-range ballistic missile system” under the Armed Forces Strategic Command.

“This test underscores Pakistan’s continued emphasis on achieving greater effectiveness of counterforce targeting potential of its strategic forces as part of the country’s operational-level strategic capability,” he added.

The ongoing development and testing of Pakistan’s short-range ballistic missile arsenal is partially to match India’s own efforts in this area, Ahmed said.

“Ghaznavi is Pakistan’s response to India’s ongoing R&D and improvement of short-range ballistic missile systems such as Prithvi [undergoing flight tests to improve its operational effectiveness], Prahaar and Pragati,” he said.

“Ghaznavi’s test appears to incorporate improved guidance, control and accuracy parameters in real-time conditions,” Ahmed said.

“Ghaznavi is aimed at improving Pakistan’s readiness to deal with all kinds of counterforce attacks at the theater level during a crisis,” he said.

“It is a dual-use system that can carry nuclear and conventional warheads, and would be a potent weapon to deter India from engaging in proactive military operations/Cold Start strategy below Pakistan’s nuclear thresholds,” he added.

Cloughley pointed out an obvious drawback to the use of Ghaznavi.

“Nuclear [surface-to-surface missiles] are designed specifically to destroy large armored formations, but of course, there would be dreadful collateral damage,” he said.

Off course accuracy is important but when firing on enemy base or where enemy is in large number with its weapons I would fit a missile with systems which can destroy most of that base and area

Provided it has an accuracy to hit the target with pinpoint accuracy.

High Explosive, Fuel-Air Explosive, Bunker-busting warhead, Cluster Munition etc can be used as conventional warheads.
For targeting a large number of tanks like you said, Cluster Penetration Munitions would be required.

Yes but the missile should be very accurate. If its accuracy is in 3 figure, this Mutations are hardly useful. Bunker buster requires very low 2 digit accuracy.
