RAWALPINDI: Federal Defence Minister Khwaja Asif and South African Defence and Military Veterans Affairs Minister N.N Mapisa Nqakula on Saturday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on “Defence and Defence Industrial Cooperation”.

On the invitation extended by Asif, Mapisa-Nqakula accompanied by a high-level delegation is visiting Pakistan from March 26-29.

As per the MoU, both countries will establish a Joint Defence Committee to pave the way for strengthening and diversifying through formal structures, collaborative programs, exchange of information and training of the armed forces officers and soldiers.

“We appreciate Pakistan’s defence efforts,” Nqakula said. “The MoU has paved way for military technical agreement between Pakistan and South Africa.”

Acquisition of defence equipment as well as cooperation in research and development (R&D), transfer of technology, and coproduction/joint ventures in public, as well as private sector, also fall within the domain of the MoU.

Both countries agreed to exchange information for efforts to fight terrorism.

“Pakistan has made significant achievements in the war against terrorism,” said Asif.

He further stated that Pakistan’s armed forces successfully destroyed terrorist hideouts and helped displaced families. “Pakistan stands among the countries most actively fighting the war against terrorism,” he said.

During the meeting in Islamabad, Asif said Pakistan is reducing its dependence on purchasing arms and defence weapons on the West. “We are strengthening ties with allies like South Africa.”

Acquisition of defence equipment as well as cooperation in Research and Development (R&D), Transfer of Technology, Co- production or Joint Ventures in public as well as private sectors, also fall within the domain of the MoU.

Mapisa-Nqakula said that South Africa is interested in purchasing fighter jets. “We will further discussions about the purchase of Super Mushtaq jet,” she said.

The South African minister also met Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa at the General Headquarters.

During the meeting, views were exchanged on issues of mutual interest including defence and security cooperation between both the countries and overall regional security situation.

The minister expressed her appreciation for Army’s successes in the elimination of terrorism from Pakistan.

Earlier, on arrival at GHQ, the Defence Minister laid a floral wreath at Yadgar-e-Shuhada.

A contingent of Pakistan Army presented the guard of honour to the visiting dignitary.

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and South Africa have signed a Memorandum of Understanding on ‘Defence and Defence Industrial Cooperation.


The document was signed during the visit of South African Defence Minister Ms. Nosiviwe Mapisa-Naqkula in Islamabad on Monday.

Under the MoU, a Joint Defence Committee will be constituted to pave the way for strengthening and diversifying bilateral defence cooperation.

It calls for cooperation in training of the armed forces officers and soldiers, acquisition of defence equipment and joint ventures. –SAMAA

“Pakistan and South Africa agreed to enhance ties in defence production”, this was said by Federal Minister for Defence Production Rana Tanveer Hussain after holding a detailed meeting with Ms. Mapisa-Nqakula, Defence Minister of South Africa and her delegation. Both sides discussed a wide range of bilateral issues in the fields of economic, investment and defence production. Secretary Defence Production and high officials of Ministry of Defence Production were also present in the meeting.

Rana Tanveer Hussain Federal Minister for Defence Production said that Pakistan values its relations with South Africa and wishes to further enhance the existing ties. He highlighted the importance of enhanced Defence Collaboration between the defence industries of two countries, including joint production. Rana Tanveer Hussain stated that Military and defence relations between Pakistan and South Africa have the potential to grow.

to explore a possibility of Joint Ventures for the manufacturing of defence equipment, formation of a Joint Commission on Defence Technical Cooperation was also discussed. Pakistan’s side suggested visit of Pakistan’s Defence Production Establishments to Public and Private sector of South Africa for interaction with defence industry. Both sides agreed to avail opportunity of excellent training facilities available in Pakistan for South African army personnel. The meeting discussed possibility of Collaboration between HIT and M/s DENEL Land Systems and technical support for Fire & Gun Control System being of mutually benefit. Both sides also agreed to enhance collaboration between PAC Kamra and M/s DENEL Aviation for which interaction have already been established. Pakistan offered facilities for construction of commercial as well as Naval Vessels at Karachi Shipyard and Engineering Works.
 
South Africa has a decent defense industry to offer from Armored vehicle to air to air and surface to air missile system. In addition to this they have naval platform too. Many things to get if Pakistan wants. Your H-2/4 also comes from south Africa.

While Pak is also lookin at a large number of SPGs, specially truck mounted guns like G series,Nora etc.

Both of which are in consideration and Nora already being field tested (solid news from serbian sources).

While SA Darter BVRs have been talk of the town for long.
 
I hope Pakistan gets Artillery as well as MRAP from South Africa with TOT.

They are confused, Mushtaq Mohammed has left a very deep scar on them.
