Pakistan seeks waiver of $50 bn foreign debt

.
the less we rely on loans the better, pak needs to stay away form the sharks at the IMF

It is a good thing to stay away from international loans, but the fact of todays situation is that most of the countries cannot avoid it. The best the country can do is to make a judgement on when to take a loan and whats its terms and conditions are which allows them to renegotiate on good faith if needed.

.
if it puts a full stop to future loans, i ll b glad..pakistan should learn to generate money from its own resources instead of relying on loans..regarding credidbilty i care to disagree..loan waivers n individual defaults are different things..there are countries who got their loans written off n have no issue of credibility..
Fact of the matter is that most of the nations cannot generate enough money by themselves to manage funding of internal programs and infrastructure. Same is the case with India and China.. nothing out of the ordinary.

On the credit ratings, I think the loan defaults do affect the credit ratings as announced by various global agencies (ex. Moody's) (may not be as harsh as personal credit ratings). Bad credit ratings does not mean that you won't get future loans... it only means that you will get loans on a much higher interest rate and more stricter terms.

We cannot keep saving the Western World without nothing in return.

Ohh. Please save us USSR and Warsaw Pact are taking over Afghanistaa and want the Oil in the middle east. Western world needs oil, so Pakistan Please help us in the war, even if it adds $18 billion to your external loans.

Ohhh Pakistan, please help us to fight Al-Qaeda even if it add $10 billion to Pakistan's debt.

Enough of saving NATO's buttt with nothing in return. We want trade and not aid, and write off these loans that a a direct result of 12 years of the first Afghan and now 10 years of the second Afghan War.

Enough in enough of carrying the western alliance and putting us under debt.

Best of luck getting that with the West almost bankrupt itself..

waivering of loan is difficult because still the global recovery is fragile...economic indicators are poor in developed countries..

$ 50 billion is a large amount and can be waived off; but then your government would get insignificant as you will be even more tightly controlled by foreign powers whom you owe this money.

It is a much larger version of what happens when you borrow money from banks. Inability to pay back results in banks taking your assets and using them as compensation.

It is hard to believe that $50 billion (about 7-8 years worth of your annual defence spending) would be just ignored. Even for European and Western countries, its a huge amount.

I noticed after joining here that most Pakistani members regret not having national autonomy in global say and having to put up with what the West wants. If this waiver is granted, Pakistan will be subject to further control from West. Which might even include breaching your borders at will.

It is therefore best to pay off your debts in coming years. Might take some time but you will eventually get there.

Someone here said that we don't want to see you stable; how does it matter? After all, it is your country, your people, your government, your military and your wish. So what we want doesn't really count here, right? You got to take the step to clean up this situation.

no trolling plz
Pakistan should try to pay this loan back.waiver of loan means more favours from usa.

Before asking for other any country should first look within. If my understanding of rich Pakistani's is correct there are many of them who have wealth in billion of dollars. Why does Pakistani's do not ask their billionaires to donate before asking others? Also what about common Pakistani, have you donated enough for your country before asking from outside. I have lot of you talking about buying expensive phones, have you ever thought of even donating 1000 Rs?

If the answer to this question is no, then why asking others to wave your loan?
Understand this the money IMF gives is collected as tax from common people of other countries as well. So why should they pay when you are not willing to help yourself?

I will say the same thing about India, if it does the same.

.
it should not be allowed as it will affect the regional power balance in the sub continent and will lead to instability .... haha... :) :)

lol....

guys if 50 billion dollars were waived off, what debt do we have on our country's economy? only 8 billion dollars?

Why do we need more loans if we can save millions or perhaps billion dollar of money that we are paying in interests?

We wouldn't need to go the world if this was ever taken off

But this isn't gonnai happen anyway

It would be true if you are taking more loans only to pay back the interest amount...if that is the case then yes it will help you big time...however i am under the impression that at this stage your economy needs money from WB to bring life into it...am i wrong???

It would be really good in short term for the state of Pakistan and its people in short term. However in long term it is detrimental as the problem is not only WOT but also under taxation as pointed by many learned Pakistani friends here itself.

Add corruption to this and not much trade we have the perfect mix of disaster, if Pakistan could try to get through this on its own, this will benefit the country very much.

How is this going to help us? The corrupt leaders can't steal money since none will be given. And what about international image? I don't know if you've noticed or not, but every single Western views Pakistan as a backwards, terrorist loving radical Islamic Muslim nation.

Someone pointed out how India paid off her debts in the 90's, but the thing was, India wasn't fighting much of a war back than like Pakistan is now.
