ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and United States will have one-day dialogue on Strategic Stability covering issues related to nuclear security, chemical and biological issues on Monday.

Additional Foreign Secretary Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry will lead Pakistan’s delegation while Gottemoller, Assistant Secretary of Arms Control of the United States, will be heading the visiting team. The hallmark of the talks would be Pakistan’s demand for cooperation in civil use of the nuclear energy.

The United States has already inked an agreement with India for cooperation in civilian use of the nuclear facilities but it has been denying the same to Pakistan. Islamabad will urge Washington for observance of parity in this matter and go for equal treatment. In return, the visitors will be briefed about the assurances that Pakistan could offer in this regard.

Well placed sources told The News here Friday that Director General of Disarmament Aman Rashid will assist his Additional Foreign Secretary while US ambassador in Pakistan Richard Olson will provide help to his Assistant Secretary for Arms Control. Pakistan and United States are getting engaged in the dialogue after the gap of one and half years. Pakistan will assure the United States of its firm resolve to safeguard its facilities in the best possible and most credible way. The US interlocutors will be briefed about the arrangements made by Pakistan for the purpose and the visiting team will explain its apprehensions regarding the nuclear and other weaponry systems.

Interestingly, Washington has been persuading Pakistan not to enter into cooperation with Iran for any fiscal transaction including building of gas pipeline from Iran to Pakistan that could help Pakistan overcome energy resources crisis and at the same time the US is reluctant to have civil nuclear cooperation with Pakistan. The host delegation will impress upon its guests to give up the policy of browbeating and let Pakistan take decisions independently, the sources pointed out.

lol, not a good idea to trust USA.

Pakistan should try the alternatives like China, Russia, France, other european countries like Ukraine.

and buffalos will dance on the tune of a guitar and the world will become very peaceful

This is nothing more then promise .. US wants to isolate Iran so delegate will come and talk smooth talk yet it will be a false promise

lol forget USA. Not some irrelevant country from the otherside of the world.

We try to improve our relations with China,Russia, and Europe.

Why get nuclear energy from USA. It will probably have some strings attached.

its totally waste of time, i wonder why Pakistan is even demanding it.

These corrupt bastard politicians are wasting Pakistan's precious time by talking with US for things which US will never give to Pakistan at all.

For me China is the right choice & they are willing to help Pakistan but these corrupt bastard politicians are wasting time.

No result can be expected from this meeting IMO.
The American strategy has always been to give a "diplomatic" response; that is neither yes or no.
And then put this before the US Congress so that we end up granting undue concessions in the false hopes of getting a handful of carrots.

They're brilliant... We're not.

Time waste I agree .. its like one of those false promises that Pakistan will get Drones one of those false promises that we will get Apache helicopters, its one of those false promises that USA will help with civilian nuclear technology , its one of those false promises that USA will help Police infrastructure , or trade discounts .. many more

It's clearly an attempt to troll IP - Let's hope this govt. don't do any kind of stupid in it's numbered days.

65 years history is more than enough even for a kindergarten kid to understand the nature of US. We must go with IP and for nuclear energy China is most trusted partner.
