Pakistan sea limits increase from 200 nm to 350 nm

Here we get the upper hand. Iran & India would need Pakistan's consent for laying of pipeline. But the pipeline would have to go through Pakistan's waters anyways. Dragging it around Pakistan's waters & previous continental shelf limit would still have been costly & painstaking.

4. Nothing in this Part affects the right of the coastal State to establish conditions for cables or pipelines entering its territory or territorial sea, or its jurisdiction over cables and pipelines constructed or used in connection with the exploration of its continental shelf or exploitation of its resources or the operations of artificial islands, installations and structures under its jurisdiction.

5. When laying submarine cables or pipelines, States shall have due regard to cables or pipelines already in position. In particular, possibilities of repairing existing cables or pipelines shall not be prejudiced.
So Apparently it appears Iran-India wont enjoy Bedrock Cables without the consent of Pakistan
And for the consent you've to pay ROYALTY

Pakistan gets additional 50,000 sq-km in sea area

Pakistan Maritime boundaries has increased by 50,000 square kilometers getting complete access to the in-depth resources, Dunya News reported on Friday.

United Nations (UN) Maritime Commission completed its review on March 19 after which they accepted the claim of Pakistan regarding rise in territorial waters.

Pakistan’s sea boundary has gone beyond 200 nautical miles reaching to 350 nautical miles.

Pakistan’s present 240,000 square kilometers along with additional fifty thousand square kilometers have come under the administration of Continental Shelf Pakistan.

Article 76 of International Maritime Law permits the coastal countries to expand their continental shelf from 200 nautical miles.

However, coastal areas have to prove their case before UN Maritime Commission through technical statistics and content.

The project to enhance the maritime boundaries of Pakistan was started in 2005 by the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) and National Institute of Hydrography under the patronage of Ministry of Science and Technology whereas UN Commission approved the recommendations of Pakistan Continental Shelf after continuous analysis and research of one year.

The UN Maritime Commission is based on 21 experts of hydrography, geo-physics, geology and other relevant departments.

Pakistan also holds the honour to represent this organization as PAF Commodore Muhammad Arshad is the member of this commission.

that incident happened nowhere near indian coast. and that insident shows how unprofessional are the PN navy is. their stupid behavior would may cause seviour damage to the ships. if any PN ship came close or near to 12 NM of indian coastline then the captain of the ship will observe a red warning signal in his cabin.

this "unprofessional" Navy saved the lives of many civilian kidnapped by Somali pirates aboard the MZ Suez -- and that includes many indians. Your "super professional" navy only got involved when it realized Pakistan was the one being proactive in saving the lives while the former was fiddling away, twiddling its thumbs. So spare us your CRAP

Ahhhmm,,, India's Ocean??
o_O

I hope you don't think the Indian ocean is India's ocean :woot:

And, this have been finalized. The proposal was made, no other country in the region raised any objection so it is a done deal.
The increase of sea limits came about by agreement between India and Pakistan. Both countries agreed not to contest each other's claims in UN. India made such agreements with other countries on its border as well. There is nothing Pakistan 'won' as such.

UNCLOS allows the extension of continental shelf to 350nm if countries can prove that their continental shelf extends that far and no one else contests the claims. This is one example where India and Pakistan gained by working together.

Thanks Sabre!

I guess this is the reason why the sea route option went silent.

Not quite so. Making a round about in the sea was always going to be difficult for Iran & India. Both being clever countries started to disown the idea. Later Iran-Pakistan-India pipeline was considered but India backed out.

The difference between the territorial sea and the exclusive economic zone is that the first confers fullsovereignty over the waters, whereas the second is merely a "sovereign right" which refers to the coastal state's rights below the surface of the sea. The surface waters, as can be seen in the map, are international waters.[

So basically the sea bed is theirs not the airspace over it and Indian fisher men can go out there.

The resources under sea bed belong to them. It is their economically. Otherwise it is International waters.
