UN accepts Pakistan’s demand to extend its sea-water limits

Pakistan’s sea-water limits have been extended from 200 to 350 nautical miles after United Nations accepted its demand for increase, ARY News has learnt.
The spokesperson of Pakistan Navy hailed the extension of country’s sea-water limits by saying “acceptance of Pakistan’s demand by the United Nations will also enhance country’s resources.”
“This has made Pakistan the first country in the region whose sea limits have been increased”, he said.
In the year 2005, Pakistan had filed claim for extension in its continental shelf from 200 nautical miles to 350 nautical miles to United Nations Commission on the Limit of Continental Shelf (UNCLOS) which was accepted by the United Nations after four years and surveys worth Rs500 million on May 2009.
The preparation of claim for extension was carried out jointly by the ministry of science and technology (MoST) and the National Institute of Oceanography (NIO).
Delegation of Pakistan led by Permanent Representative to UN, Dr Maleeha Lodhi presented its stance to exceed sea limits in United Nations on March 10, 2015.
Following the detailed argument, UNCLOS approved Pakistan’s demand to extend its continental shelf by 150 nautical miles into the sea on March 19, 2015.
The extension in continental Shelf will provide Pakistan full control on the marine resource lies under the sea.

Q: if India is planning an undersea pipeline from Iran, would this extension possibly put a spanner in that plan?

Interesting question. Never asked this question when I was doing the Law of the Seas course. Let me do little book consulting & I'll get back to you.

Sorry past 200 nm India's ocean begins. UN has no say over sovereign Indian territory.

dude the seabed is in the maritime border of Pakistan & Oman & Oman conceded it to Pakistan. last I know India's EEZ doesn't comes anywhere near the mid-east in fact Not even close , the only country in south Asia who has a maritime border with the Persian gulf/mid-east is Pakistan through the Pakistan-Oman & Pakistan-Iran maritime boundary

Now Pakistan needs to develop a single Corp. which would be known as Pakistan Mineral exploration company, dealing in:
Exploration
Extraction
Refining
Developing it into usable Raw Material
Selling Raw Material to industries.

Do this on land and sea, and on all terrains.
