India ranks less than 15th in the number of arms exported. How come India never developed a significant arms industry?

That was exactly my point in another thread with @Hindustani78 that it seems even ammunition is imported by India, so much so that the Indian Defense Minister is worried. He wants locally produced ammunition in case of sanctions (and to cut costs due to endless dependency on imports).

Anyway, the Russians selling anything to Pak that has any impact on India would be just silly, will only lead India to cut down import from Russia further.

That will only hurt India as India is heavily dependent on Russia for spares and many other things. And how can India turn its nose to the T-50s and many other toys? Nah. Russians are smart. They can see how India has snubbed them on many lucrative contracts and that was even before the Russians supplied any Mi-35s! You guys offended Russia.

When Modi-Putin meet, the deals announced will render this woefully insignificant.

I will just say two words: RD-93 and JF-17.
