Air chief witnesses live missile firing of JF-17 Thunder


ISLAMABAD, Feb 2 (APP):Air Chief Marshal Sohail Aman Friday witnessed live missile firing of JF-17 Thunder at the Sonmiani Firing Range.
Chief of the Air Staff, Pakistan Air Force Air Chief Marshal Sohail Aman was chief guest at the ceremony, a press release said.
Addressing on the occasion, the air chief said, “We are thankful to Allah Almighty who has given us the strength to achieve this extraordinary milestone. The successful testing of these sophisticated weapons is a testimony of JF-17 Thunder’s multirole capabilities.”
He said it was a matter of immense pride that six PAF fighter squadrons had already been equipped with the pride of the nation JF-17 Thunder aircraft, making it the backbone of our aerial defence.
He also lauded the hard work put in by PAF and Chinese personnel in making this event a success.
It was a landmark occasion for the PAF as well as the whole nation, when the indigenously produced JF-17 Thunder shot down a slow speed target with BVR (Beyond Visual Range) and IR (Infrared) missile with pin point accuracy at Sonmiani firing range.
The day marked a monumental episode in the glorious history of PAF as a state-of-the-art Weapon Test Range has been made operational to track the complete trajectory of the aircraft and launched missiles.
This modern facility, developed in collaboration with Chinese authorities, is equipped with real time tracking and measuring equipment to qualify the indigenously developed and procured weapon systems.
The live demonstration was a potent display of the PAF’s capability to successfully locate and destroy high/ slow speed moving targets by employing high-tech inventory of aircraft and missiles.
Earlier, Air Vice Marshal Haseeb Paracha, Air Officer Commanding, Southern Air Command received the chief guest on his arrival at the venue.
High ranking PAF officers along with civil and military officials also witnessed this historic event.

there are numerous L.L radars and 3 sqn of High Level Radar already there , Most Prob 41X/40X there along with TWCC and MCP typo commbo created in somiani test range with the help of China.

I cannot say anything at the moment what they did but if there is some news I will update you. If you are asking me to make an assessment then you have to consider few things first the range of NAVAL NOTAM issued, Second the CAA NOTAM issued third the Target that was used. Now the Target was some thing in between a low flying drone and a stealth cruise missile. 2 targets were launched one from land to test IR missile and other from Ship to test BVR missile. Target in both cases was same and the test were made on both slow speed and high speed of targets.

TBH mate i couldn't even see what happened in the video you posted.
Just seemed like the jet terribly tried to keep up with a missile and couldnt because we couldnt see what happened when it hit its target.

SD10 is operational for years. JFs are doing CAPs on our borders armed with this missile. Not something new.

On this occasion, they wanted to show off. At least should have done a better job. Could have been used for marketing purpose of JF.

It took PAF 12 years to integrate BVR missile in jf 17 since it's induction in 2007. By the time jf17 achieves FOC most of the airframes of jf17 wil at their end of service life. PAF should ordered jf17 only after achieving FOC.

You gullible Indians will not understand. The emphasis was that a "slow moving object" was hit in a BVR engagement, referring to American drones. The message is for them. SD10 is intergrated with JF17 for years. They do CAPs on Indian border armed with SD10. You can clearly see in the video.

Pakistan tested 2 (AAM) missiles today from JF-17 one BVR and IR guided. The tests were done from Sonmiani test rage. Under the advanced weapons program of Pakistan. the test were conducted on a stealth drone. the test resulted successful. JF-17 just became Bhramos killer.

You would not have said this If you had any knowledge of Air forces. If you look a pilot training program of any air force shooting down a cruise missile is part of the flight simulator course in any air academy. No hush hush.
