It is sincerely requested of them to not take the law into their hands and to enable fulfillment of their demands by strengthening democracy and electing officials who meet their aspiration. Agreed. And on the morning of 15 August 1947 there were the Dominions of India & Pakistan along with an INDEPENDENT JAMMU & KASHMIR, all three legalised under Indian Independence Act of 1947.

The Independent state of Jammu & Kashmir entered into a standstill agreement with Pakistan while it consolidated itself and mulled over the question whether to remain independent or merge with Pakistan. Neither merging with India nor India expecting it to merge with India, is ever a recorded historical fact, at the time. The question was clearly between merging with Pakistan or remaining independent. The only reason where India was an option was the fact that the most popular anti-Maharaja Leader Sheikh Abdullah was a secularist who confronted MA Jinnah publicly on the Muslim only approach of the latter and recognising the assault on Kashmiriyat refrained from throwing in his lot with Muslim League. He was more comfortable with the secular credentials of the new nation of India rather than Pakistan.

The National Conference had the most significant backing, and his popularity was so high, that the Maharaja had him jailed as a political prisoner.

Coming back, it was the Pakistanis who attacked this independent country thereby literally driving Kashmir into Indian hands.

Now, kindly tell me, was this aggression against a new nation the act of supporting an independent Kashmir?
