Pakistan, New Zealand discuss mutual cooperation

RAWALPINDI, June 12 (APP): The Chief of Defence Force of New Zealand Lt.General Jeremiah (Jerry) Mateparae here on Tuesday called on Secretary Defence Kamran Rasool and discussed with him matters of mutual interest. Both sides exchanged views on the geo-strategic situation of the region with special reference to Afghanistan.

The Secretary briefed the Chief of Defence Force of New Zealand about counter-terrorism measures taken by Pakistan. He told the visiting dignitary that Pakistan was strongly committed to fighting the war against terrorism and had achieved considerable success in this regard.


He said Pakistan had deployed 80,000 troops on its border with Afghanistan to stop cross border infiltration. The Secretary informed Lt.General Jeremiah (Jerry) Mateparae that the Waziristan agreement was working well and had contributed a lot towards bringing normalcy and containing militancy in the area.


The Secretary apprised the visiting dignitary about the support provided by Pakistan in terms of access and logistics to ISAF and NATO troops currently stationed in Afghanistan. The Secretary also highlighted the significant contribution made by Pakistan in peace-keeping operations under UN mission in various parts of the world.
The Chief of Defence Forces of New Zealand stressed the need for enhanced cooperation and people to people contacts for the mutual benefit of the two countries. He thanked the Government of Pakistan for extending him warm welcome and hospitality.

New Zealand's Defence Staff Chief meets Gen. Ehsan

RAWALPINDI, June 12, (APP): Lt. Gen. Jeremiah Matepare, Chief of the Defence Staff of New Zealand Tuesday visited Joint Staff Headquarters and called on General Ehsan Ul Haq, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee. General Mateparae, arrived here on his first visit to Pakistan on an invitation extended by General Ehsan Ul Haq.

On his arrival at Joint Staff Headquarters, he was warmly received by CJCSC. A smart contingent of the Tri Services Guard presented salute to him.

The Director Generals of the Joint Staff were also introduced to Lt. General Mateparae. The dignitary held parleys with Chairman JCSC focusing on matters of mutual interest, followed by a presentation on the security perspective of Pakistan.

Lt. Gen Jeremiah Mateparae is expected to meet senior ranking officers of the three services.

Just some interesting point on Kiwi Armed Forces.

Many Kiwis serve in the British Armed Forces as Kiwis as such don't use their armed forces (army) much.

They donot have any airforce (fighters) and all Kiwi Airforce Pilots are seconded to the Australian Airforce to maintain the fighter skills.

The most sought after unit is the KIWI SAS a special force unit based on the British SAS and this unit has just returned from Afghanistan.

Good points, however, Kiwis don't require to arm themself viciously, my comments to the news report is that the report only showing that Pakistani armed forces are to conduct a mutual joint training in the name to counter terrorism.

However, I also see that the the Kiwis are interested in learning how the Pakistani geo stratigical points are on Afganistan, as the second report shows a high level meeting of between both generals.

Interesting, this hasn't been reported here at all. Good to see some communication going on, especially given our presence(s) in Afghanistan. I expect it's some sort of follow-up from Musharraf's visit here last year.
