I remember reading that submarines are more maintenance intensive than ships on surface.

For PN Submarines are offensive weapons not defensive and it's submarine force is not something to take lightly.

Even the antique Agosta 70s have the subtics combat management system which India will get on its Scorpenes. They got new updates along with a mid life upgrade.

PN also builds and has a classified number of midget submarines and a project which we don't hear much about :azn:.

News reports ssay PN will receive its first 4 of 8 Yuan class submarines by 2023. If its 1 submarine per year than can be assumed they will start arriving from 2019.

Submarines are maintenance intensive thats why even the Indian Navy has half of them available at a time.

This is not inaccurate and will get worse in the next 10 years when both the 90Bs will be docked for upgrades and the Yuans wont arrive in that timeframe. The Agosta 70s are essentially only good for small coastal patrols and training with severw corrosion issues.

And.............

Actually it will be 2028 and by that Indian Navy sub fleet will also expand a lot.
Since when are you defence minister of pakistan?
Because our minister said after 2021 we will get 2 every 15 months as they will be built simultaneously in Pakistan and china with completion no latter than 2028

Hi,

The Indian officer has made the right analysis---. Pak navy s woefully ill equipped when it comes to submarines---.

As I have stated many a times---major weapons system orders must never be cancelled for kick backs---but only cancelled if the product looked at is inferior to what is available---.

The guy is right in his assessment PN in fact has only 3 submarines. The 2 Agosta 70s are too old and 3 midget submarines have very restricted roles.

Can this assessment be taken as an indication that IN is able to monitor PN submarine facilities, particularly the entries and exits? There was speculation a few years ago, right here in PDF for one (perhaps by you) that with adequate surveillance, IN might be able to track the PN sub fleet given the limited number of areas where PN can host its subs?

8 more submarines will be handed over to PN by 2022 making a total of 11 submarines even if all Agosta 70 are all phased out.

2028 for all 8 subs.

It's an open secret, everyone knows one is getting upgrades

Yes PN has 3 operational subs at any given time to 6 of India.. not a big deal. By 2028 India navy will have less than 20 subs to 11 of PN. Big deal....
