What the hell is wrong with PN and its policy makers. Two ships here, one ship there, rather than becoming a proficient naval force we are spending MILLIONS to transfer Navy into a Museum. All these different types (Chinese, Dutch, Turkish and now this America) ships makes no sense. One or MAX two types could have been bought in number to fill in all these roles enabling us to secure better deals financially, reduce infrastructure cost and avoid the maintenance and up gradation nightmare going forward.
The key isn't the weapons (you can fit those to a freight ship), but the hull and superstructure. Like the Damen OPV (incl OPV 1800) the Swift Corvette has an all-steel hull and superstructure (with the option of having an aluminium superstructure). This means it is a lower cost vessel, probably around the same area as the Damen OPV 1800 ($30-40 m for Malaysia?). It might be moot terminology, but the corvettes - e.g. Damen Sigma, MILGEM Ada, etc - have composite superstructures (i.e. much costlier, lower RCS, etc).
What's the 'role' of these 'corvettes' then? Based on the Marine News report, it is literally undertaking the same roles - word-for-word - as the Damen OPVs.It's the role that decides the classification - corvettes as the OEM suggests.
BTW, no mention of those ships by Ex CNS Zakaullah.
There were friends on this forum who said yanks wont sell Pak anything Now due to Afghan issue ?.Ok How about if things start moving towards twin engine jett American knows Pak needs twin engine baby i wont surprise if we see news in this regard down the road .A powerful pak is in Americas interest .

The 'random interview' was done with the CEO of Swiftships ... by two different news publications (Monche in Germany and Marine News in the U.S.) no less.A random interview by some guy, no confirmation from PN or MODP, and fan boys go ballistic on PN planners.
Are these two swiftships on order from Pakistan just like there are a number of Jf-17 on order from Nigeria, Myanmar, Azerbaijan, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait, Argentina, Iran, etc.?
What's the 'role' of these 'corvettes' then? Based on the Marine News report, it is literally undertaking the same roles - word-for-word - as the Damen OPVs.
"The vessel is especially suited for Anti Surface, Anti Air Operations, Maritime Security Operations (MSO), Day & Night Helicopter Operations, Combat Search and Rescue (CSAR) and Surveillance and Intelligence Gathering Operations."

Than random guy is CEO of the company and the ship you are posting about is already in use he mentioned their 75 Meter CorvetteThis is an SOC-R (pronounced SOK R) Special Operations Craft - Riverine (It's just a boat)
The thing they are calling OPV can carry 4 Anti Ship Missiles along with AAW capability and even option of putting Anti Submarine Capability is thereI think you aren't getting my point.
Damen is marketing its ship as an OPV.
Swift 75m corvette can do the same duties in peacetime but as the MN article states... is an ASW corvette in wartime.
If PN wanted more OPV's, it could have just ordered 2 more 1900t OPV's.
Basically, PN is getting 2 (with option of 2 more) cheap ASW/AShW assets... which though not as good as Ada can data-link with Orions, ATR-72 and possibly the Ada itself.
I understand that those are cheap vessels.. but PN could make those quite capable with little added cost - say adding US/Swedish torpedo, Phalanx, Harpoon and even some sensors from two retired Type 21's.
