What's new

Pakistan Navy has 2 new Swiftship corvettes on order

.
They are not logistic nightmares most of these ships are modular. means the weapons of different kinds and other systems can be integrated. like similar ships systems and weaponry can be equipped to these. furthermore most of these ships have guns that are similar to other platforms and are basically TOT more or less. So I am happy rather than worried. we are just sitting and typing Naval Officers know better what is better for them. its not that easy to buy destroyers for country like us. Vertical Launch Systems can be equipped now with smaller modification to any ship. I am quite sure that Pakistan is buying these vessel most of them would be modified later in future to equip VLS. removing unwanted sections to install new systems is optional and possible in naval industry. However VLS based ships should be target also. Since some frigates are coming from china they are probably with AAW capabilities.

.
PN has ordered 2 corvettes with option of another two.

.
Sales of Swiftships’ 11m unmanned Anaconda Special Operation Craft Riverine (SOC-R) craft are gaining traction. The company just delivered its first fully operational SOC-R to the Pakistan Navy (PN) for use by its marines. “The vessel will upgrade their capability for fighting insurgents and performing drug interdiction-related tasks for highly dense and shallow areas, Mr. Shah said.

How come no one is discussing this? especially the unmanned part?

Congrats if true still a modest size vessel some where along the lines of our Azmat class Missile boat , close coast ship

. .
Almost same as our Azmat class Missile boat , less armed , has the dingy boat at rear
Mininal weapons , the connon etc similar to what we have in Azmat class missile boat etc

An ok purchase as one user stated perhaps Pakistan Navy is trying to fill out the coast guard and OPV class ships while it is not necessarily a big frigate or destroyer but it does helps with over all security near Pakistan's own coastlines which is the main objective

Definitely is there between the missile boat/corvette ship category

Our baby Azmat class has a similar feel to it just we have decided to put the missiles at back where a helicopter would have landed design difference

Respectable purchase 7 out of 10 not an extraordinary deal but respectable being a new ship is great plus

Well done Pakistan Navy / Military planners :yahoo::yahoo:

2 Dutch OPV
2 Swift Class Corvettes

2-4 Improved f22p frigates or New Bigger ships (MYSTERY SHIP)
2-4 Milgem Corvettes (Turkey) (AWITED DEAL)
8 - Chinese Submarines

A good modest investment

The key isn't the weapons (you can fit those to a freight ship), but the hull and superstructure. Like the Damen OPV (incl OPV 1800) the Swift Corvette has an all-steel hull and superstructure (with the option of having an aluminium superstructure). This means it is a lower cost vessel, probably around the same area as the Damen OPV 1800 ($30-40 m for Malaysia?). It might be moot terminology, but the corvettes - e.g. Damen Sigma, MILGEM Ada, etc - have composite superstructures (i.e. much costlier, lower RCS, etc).

.
For OPVs specifically it would have made more sense to add more of the Damen ships from the Netherlands. But as this is coming from the U.S., I suspect subsidies or aid is in motion.

The PN is building a three-tier system:
  1. PMSA MPVs
  2. PN OPVs (i.e. Damen OPV and Swiftships OPV)
  3. ASW-capable frigate and corvette fleet (i.e. F-22P, MILGEM Ada, new Chinese frigate)
All that VLS, LACM, etc stuff is in area (3). The areas (1) and (2), while growing in number, cost a fraction of what it'll take to build (3), but they're necessary to take on maritime policing. You wouldn't want to send in a MILGEM Ada with its composite super structure into a scenario where it can get hit by random RPGs and ATGMs... That's where these MPVs and OPVs come in, especially the OPVs as they can be heavily armed too.
i doubt subsidies, there isno doubt good relations btween armed forces of usa/pakistan , problem is we are the designated scape goat, so no way...
its more PN is making these odd moves, may be some money / kick backs involved looking at previous hx

this pattern is seen in both navy/land forces..buying mix systems not keeping indigenous development or econmy of scale in mind whther it be gunships or even simpler rifles or missles

The swift ships also have four anti ship missiles if you go to their websites and look at the top part of the ship right behind the RAM in the 3D viewing tool. It's certainly a longer endurance missile boat with anti air missiles

.
The fact they fit a chopper at back makes it interesting , because it is really same size as our Azmat class ship they just created extra room by making the central area of ship taller vertically. While azmat class decided to keep llow their central part bit lower

A reasonable addition , any details on the cost for this ships ?
