What's new

Pakistan Navy has 2 new Swiftship corvettes on order

How come no one is discussing this? especially the unmanned part?
This seems confidential why have they published such info if Pakistan Navy their customer has not disclosed it yet I suggest to remove it

I think you aren't getting my point.

Damen is marketing its ship as an OPV.

Swift 75m corvette can do the same duties in peacetime but as the MN article states... is an ASW corvette in wartime.

If PN wanted more OPV's, it could have just ordered 2 more 1900t OPV's.

Basically, PN is getting 2 (with option of 2 more) cheap ASW/AShW assets... which though not as good as Ada can data-link with Orions, ATR-72 and possibly the Ada itself.

I understand that those are cheap vessels.. but PN could make those quite capable with little added cost - say adding US/Swedish torpedo, Phalanx, Harpoon and even some sensors from two retired Type 21's.
That's true. It could be a good way to increase the number of AShW/ASW-capable platforms without breaking the bank, but also without compromising on peacetime naval duties. These Swift Corvettes can cover EEZ and SLOCs.

Nopes, he mentioned OPV's are on order and SOC-R is delivered

Than random guy is CEO of the company and the ship you are posting about is already in use he mentioned their 75 Meter Corvette

The thing they are calling OPV can carry 4 Anti Ship Missiles along with AAW capability and even option of putting Anti Submarine Capability is there

Its better to put these corvettes at Gwadar for any kind of duty rather than dedicating a Frigate to Patrol there.

Where did you get the 4 AShM figure? It could even be 8 AShM.

When people find out about a new ship order , 2-4 , you just say thank you to all mighty finally Navy gets their turn

Now obviously a missile boat / corvette class ship but for Pakistan Navy a small step to fill gaps

PN should exercise following options too

OPTIONAL FEATURES
  • Surface Vessel Torpedo Tube (SVTT)

  • Slim Line Towed Array (SLTA)

  • Hull Mounted Sonar (HMS)

Look at the 75m 'OPV' Swiftships was offering few years ago. The currently offered 75m corvette appears to be it's development, with some reduced RCS and optionally offered ASW capability in mind.

BTW, Pakistan had 3 ship sets of Harpoon launchers. One went to PNS Alamgir, the two remaining (currently on PNS Tippu Sultan and PNS Shah Jahan) are now very likely to appear on the 75m corvette's. I expected PN to re-use those with Ada, if acquired.

PN must invest into an Atmaca/Exocet like solution, IMO.
