LUMUT, Dec 23 (Bernama) -- The Navy of Pakistan is prepared to cooperate with the Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) to strengthen bilateral ties between the two countries.

The High Commissioner of Islamic Republic of Pakistan to Malaysia, Mohammad Nafees Zakari said cordial relations between navy of his country and RMN had long been established and would continue to expand.

"This close relation has benefited both countries in ensuring the navy forces are more efficient with the sharing of ideas and skills.

"In fact in March, we also participated in the Malaysia-Pakistan (Malpak) exercise for the first time to raise the effectiveness of the forces and promote better military ties between the two countries," he said.

He told Bernama after welcoming the arrival of a Pakistan warship docked at RMN base here today.....

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Navy Ship (PNS) SAIF, presently on an overseas deployment to friendly countries of East and South East, visited Malaysian Port Lumut for goodwill cum training visit.

Upon arrival at Port Lumut, the ship was received by high commissioner, defence adviser of Pakistan at Malaysia and liaison officer of Royal Malaysian Navy. During the stay at port, PNS SAIF Commanding Officer Captain Shahzad Iqbal called-on Royal Malaysian Navy Deputy Western Fleet Commander First Admiral Abu Bakar Bin Mohd Ajis.

PNS SAIF commanding officer extended well wishes on behalf of the Pakistan Navy Chief of Naval Staff, Admiral Zafar Mahmood Abbasi to the people of Malaysia in general and Royal Malaysian Navy in particular. He also extended his gratitude to the wholehearted support provided by Royal Malaysian Navy in making ship’s stay comfortable.

With an aim to enhance cooperation and interoperability between the two navies at a tactical level, PNS SAIF also conducted naval drills and exercises at sea with Malaysian Navy Ship KD SELANGOR (FFG-176). During the three days stay at the port, cross-ship visits and reception onboard PNS SAIF were also held.

PNS SAIF is the 3rd sword class frigate of Pakistan Navy fitted with state of the art weapons and sensors and is capable of undertaking all types of maritime operations in a multi threat environment.

Naval forces have historically played a pivotal role in strengthening the bonds of friendship between nations through goodwill visits. In this regard, Pakistan Navy recognises the need to enhance maritime collaboration, may it be in the form of regular interactions, visit of senior officers, training cooperation or participation in bilateral and multi-national exercises and exhibitions.

This visit of PNS SAIF to Lumut will further strengthen the bonds of friendship between Pakistan and Malaysia
