While Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan claims that his government does not discriminate against the minority community, a recent decision by the country’s National Assembly has exposed its hypocrisy.

The National Assembly has rejected a Bill that sought to allow a non-Muslim to become the President and the Prime Minister of Pakistan.

Naveed Aamir Jeeva, a lawmaker and a Christian belonging to the Pakistan People's Party (PPP) introduced the bill in the National Assembly, The News International reported.

However, the bill was blocked by the National Assembly, with majority voice on Tuesday.

The lawmaker proposed an amendment to Article 41 and Article 91 of the Constitution to allow non-Muslims to become Prime Minister and President of Pakistan.

In Pakistan, only a Muslim can be elevated to the posts of President and Prime Minister.

According to Article 91 of the Pakistani Constitution, the National Assembly is empowered to elect one of its Muslim members to be the Prime Minister. Similarly, Article 41 of the country’s Constitution says that a person shall not be qualified for election as President unless he is a Muslim.

Pakistan PM has times and again said that the minorities in his country are enjoying complete freedom, security, and their rights are being protected.

. . . . .
Just get it passed. The chance that a person from a minority becoming the Prime Minister is next to 0%, just like the chance of a Muslim becoming the Prime Minister of India is next to 0%. They still allow it to charm the international community into thinking they are a fair and just state. Pakistan meanwhile is painted as a pariah extremist state due to the existence of such laws. Khan is doing a great job at boosting Pakistans image at the international level. He needs to keep going.

Pakistan need to get rid of this law and become pseudo secular Islamic state for better image. If shias can become PM and Presidents then so can hindus and christians.

Shias are Muslims. The rest i agree with.

why would we want a bill like that?
India claims to be a secular country and is oppressing minorities left, right and center while the world looks away
we dont even claim to be secular, why would we want to behave like one?

Correct. Although the Shia part is controversial.

We can follow the India model actually. Presidential post is a ceremonial post. It is a selected post , not an elected one.

Imran khan can actually strip powers from presidential post and then give it to christian or hindu. That would actually be a great optics for Pakistan. The same way India gave APJ abdul kalam presidential post.

Although we need to find a Hindu first who has done so much for Pakistan , just like a muslim ( APJ abdul kalam) has done for India.

Yes they are and non of that requires making them president or PM. Its Islamic Republic of Pakistan, its based upon Islam, so how can a non muslim lead it?

It's the wrong decision by the assembly. People think this IK's fault. They dont realise that there are votes in the national assembly and if people vote against this bill due to ignorance or prejudice then u cannot blame IK

Pure rubbish emanating from a pure racist, radical and sectarian mind. Why dont you move to India and enjoy the benefits of being a subject of a non Muslim ruler. We partitioned the Maata of Hindus to implement this law and revoking it would prove to be a suicide for Pakistan.

We are a Muslim majority nation hence, no question arises as such in first place. Secondly, India used to claim to have Muslim president and then we all see the result as well that details are all over the history.
