Punjab assembly seeks award for executed Jamaat leaders

Pakistan’s Punjab assembly on Tuesday passed a resolution seeking ‘Nishan-e-Pakistan’ award for Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami leaders executed in Bangladesh on charge of crimes against humanity during the 1971 war that resulted in the dismemberment of Pakistan and the birth of Bangladesh.


Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz (PML-N) MPA Allauddin Shaikh presented the resolution against the executions of Jamaat-e-Islami leaders in Bangladesh, reports ARY news.


It stated that Jamaat-e-Islami leaders are being executed for the pro-Pakistan stance and should be honoured with Nishaan-e-Pakistan award.

@bongbang I am not one of those Pakistanis who tries to cover up or belittle the atrocities us combined as west Pakistanis did on poor Bengalis. It is the blackest chapter in Pakistani history and many Pakistanis today acknowledge it as such.

But where is the justice in punishing an 80+ man for actions he may have taken part in in a time when the country was ethnically charged. Is there any solid proof he was a criminal or is it just circumstantial evidence. Lets not allow hate and an ignoble past to govern us. Also the hanging has taken place more than 40 years after the events took place. Why so late and doesn't it raise question marks about the due process? Pakistanis, most of us have no hard feelings with Bangladeshis. Why are Bangladeshis so locked in the past though because now the immediate danger Bengal faces is from India not Pakistan.

Also the win for India was unmistakable but also showed opportunism. India is doing exactly what Pakistan did in Bengal to muslims in Kashmir and to a lesser extent in our Lucknow which is why we escaped. Why does it not free Kashmir if it cares so much about Bengalis?

Is it not injustice that a smaller country like Pakistan was torn up for its mistakes in Bengal yet India which did the same thing in Kashmir continues to oppress. The point is we learned our lesson but what about India that continues to do this in Kashmir. All pathetic talk of this Islamic unity went out of the window when the largest muslim nation in the world, one with 350 million was torn to pieces. Islam was the ultimate victim sacrificed at the sword of ethnic nationalism. If we had forgiven each other and chose to work together who knows what we could have accomplished.

Wrong comparison. What atrocities in Lucknow? Please enlighten me. and why didn't ALL the Muslims from UP and Bihar move? Maybe some didn't have means to move at the time of the partition but the option to move was available till 1950s like Musharrafs did. Or that you thinks maybe they just didn't see the need to?

Kashmir and Bangladesh can't be compared.

1) There's no ban on Kashmiri or Urdu in Kashmir, Bengali was banned in East Pakistan.

2) There's no injustice to Kashmir in terms of allocation of funds. In fact Kashmir gets highest share of Union budget per capita.

3) No political differences and Kashmiris weren't thrown out of the government despite of having won the majority. I guess we saw a milder version of it in 1989 elections and also witnessed the repercussions and the the rise in insurgency.

4) Finally, no operation searchlight in Kashmir. Scale of murders, rapes and destructions hasn't even been close to it in Kashmir.

Are there no human rights violation in Kashmir? Course there are. There will always be wherever Army is present in such large numbers. Including in Afghanistan by NATO forces and in FATA and Balochistan by Pak forces.

The question is what is this money allocated to? I think anyone with the brain capacity of a monkey would be able to understand why Kashmir, which is occupied by several hundred thousand Indian troops, doing god-knows-what, would know why it's getting the most funds in the country.

Consider the populace of Kashmir and the populace of East Pakistan before talking about the numbers. Around 10-15 million Kashmiris is barely anything compared to 60 million Bangladeshis in 1970. More insurgents were present in East Pakistan and they had a certain superpower bankrolling them. There won't be such a scale similar to 1971. Not that your army hasn't tried to repeat it.
